very chunky but works fine i'm a newbie so it's aimed at newbies like my-self

it randomly selects a victim then randomly selects the Villian via a cunning plan (lol) that means the victim cannot be selected as the Villian
(touch wood)
each character has it's own specific Dice variable that is only used if he is selected as victim and it's this dice that choses the villian if you see what i mean

anyhuw--

you can then use this particular dice variable to control the items messages go to fram actions in a custom way for each character
or use the character name variable as i have done to display the name of the victim and murderer on screen

using things like

ie if the murderer is Lord Farley then go to frame1
if it's Lady Farley then go to frame 1b
and so on
could be hotspots turned on and of or diferent items items given --anything
in this way you can use the same variables to give the player clues as to the identity of the villian next time you play the victim, villian AND the clues will be different-and so on--i'm assured the save game option over rides this so you ca safely save your progress mid game and re-load retaining the same crime

and it's professor plum in library with the revolver!!

i'm sure a point n click adventure version of cluedo is possible here

working on a soloution to the crime puzzle now ---

here's some other code snippets simply because as a newbie --looking at other peoples working code examples (that are written at the same experience level i have obtained --ie basic chunky un-optomised tools for doing stuff)

here's some important (for me anyhow) code i wrote to hide and show "cards" (hotspot images) in a similar way to Cluedo showing cards to the player when he makes a guess--discovering i could nest one randomisation code INSIDE an IF-- ELSEIF code was really great news and hugely usefull and fun for hundreds of different situations and uses--and it's fairly straight forward to adapt as you go along

VERY nice. Yes, it is a bit chunky.... but it works. This one goes into my evergrowing file of tutorials that have information I can use as I do my own games.

Have any of you seen the movie "Murder by Death"? That might make an interesting game. 4 to 10 of the greatest detectives of fiction are invited to a dinner...and a murder. Lots of money (I think it was $1 million) goes to whoever solves the "murder mystery". The code you have in this post would work as the basis of the "core" of the game.

If it works, and it's readeable and easily maintainable, then it's good enough! :)

If you haven't already, you might want to consider using the Select statement. Anytime you have a lot of conditions, the Select statement is a great alternative!
