Did you know that you can use bigger inventory icons?

Hi,

In case you didn't know, it is possible to use icons bigger than 32x32 for displaying your inventory items.

For example, I have tested the 48x48 icons available from:
http://www.techlogica.us/icons/free/48x48.php

When you drag-and-drop an item, the cursor takes the appearance of the item, but the cursor is limited to 32x32. Therefore, for best results, I recommend you to create icons that, in addition to the larger version of the icon, also include a 32x32 version (in the same file - in fact ICO files can contain icons of multiple sizes in a single file). Most icon editors allow you to do that (unfortunately not the one included in AM).

Also, to prevent the bigger inventory icons from being overlapped, you can adjust the settings that are under the "Inventory" tab of the Project Properties, as shown in the attached screenshot.

After some tests by the nice guys at Blumial Studio, it seems that you can also use icons bigger than 48x48.

Finding a good horizontal and vertical spacing to set in the Project Properties can be a little tricky.

The guys obtained nice results with 90x70 icons, and the following settings: the horizontal spacing was set to 70 and the vertical spacing was set to 40.

Thanks for the tests.

I know I'm replying 2 YEARS late for this, (I'm new :P ) but I thought I'd add something relevant to this topic.

this plug-in for Photoshop can allow you to export as ico files. I use this all the time for making icons ... works like a charm! I use tis with extra large pics then SHRINK them down to proper size....if done right, you can get a very clear and sharp icon image.

EDIT: side-note, I have confirmed this works on cs3, but I have not tested this plug-in with cs4. it may or not work due to incompatibility issues with most Adobe products between cs3 and cs4.

Dunno if you guys have this already, but it's brilliant for inventory icons!!!

http://greenfish-icon-editor-pro.en.softonic.com/

Greenfish icon editor allows you to take PNG (with transparency), gif (also) Jpeg, BMP Tiff etc... and convert them to icons and cursors and animated cursors... UP TO 256 X !!! Direct batch conversion allows for a multiple option in size and resolution output. IT IS NEAT!!!
If you don't have, or if this link is broken, go google it and find it while it's free! :D :D :D :D :D :D
