*** I finally got my broadband connection sorted out, so I'll be updating very quickly from now on. A fresh 20 techniques will be up by next week!!! ***

HOWEVER: Due to my stupidity in dealing with HMTL, the formatting was messed up. I had no time to fix them today, so if you find weird stuff like underlined words for no reason or bits of HTML, I apologize. I will check through it and update it as soon as possible. Hope you enjoy the techniques though!

Hello, I'm now releasing something called 100 VB Techniques which has 100 visual basic techniques for Adventure Maker. Some of them are simple, some of them are complicated, but each and every one of them has been carefully layed out to make it clear and simple for anyone to use...

Hope you enjoy them!

Any suggestions will be taken into account, as I am writing this for a very large audience (everybody), so I want to include as much as possible.

(P.S I will improve the layout, I was rushing to have it ready for publishing today)

Sounds fantastic. If you could, displaying additional bars such as a health bar, and a dice script. To roll, lets say 2d6 or 1d20 with modifier, totaling the dice.

Working on both of them. :D

Could you clarify the dice script though? I understand the health bar/additional bar idea, but I'm not sure what you would like to do with the dice. Thanks!

I think the script for the dice is supposed to be like a randomizer, in which you choose the highest number on each die and select how many dice you want. Then, it randomizes a number on the die.

That is correct, let me give you an example:

The dice is a 20 sided dice (1-20)

Click on a hotspot and the dice is rolled and displays the result - 12

Now to take that a bit further...

Lets say the player has a set of armor that helps to protect him, that adds a +1 modifier to the roll. (We are considering higher score to be better).

So you would click on the dice and it would then roll 1D20 +1 result 13 (Using the example above.)

Now as far as rolling multiple dice...

We want to roll 3 - 6 sided dice and total the result. So you hit the roll the dice hotspot, and it rolls 2, 4, 3 giving you the total of 9. Having the modifier as above would be handy as well.

Okay I've got it now! :D

Out of interest, is this an RPG game you're developing. Health Bars, Randomizers etc. make it sound like one!

I can't think of many Adventure Maker RPG games...

Great.

I've reached a point now, where I'm a bit stuck for ideas. Any suggestions?

Okay, I'm hoping to release the guide sometime in February with a preview of the layout being put online some time before the end of this year.

I'm very curious to know how far you are with this tutorial, and if you have already a preview :)

by Chromegloss55
Sure. :D

I can show you the first ten, I've just got to export them out of Visual Web Developer (the software I'm using to develop this tutorial).

I'm still trying to figure out the format. Whether to have 10 to a page or have them all on the one page.

I'm sorry for talking so much about them and not actually displaying them, people must've begun to think I was lying! I better put some sort of 'preview' and quick!

Well, I finally managed to get some work up on the forums. (Took my time didn't I!)

It's coming along fine and there's no need to worry, I'm not going to bail out of this after coming this far and getting everybody worked up. :D

Talk to you soon...

Man I'm waiting for that tutorial. ^^ Since I don't understand the scrypting part so I think it will be very good for me to see that tutorial.

I've decided I'm going to release the tutorial in segments of 10 techniques. One set a week, perhaps?

Once I've got them all up, I'll compile them into one.

How does that sound?

Good, bad? Clever, stupid?

Well, I thought you didn't release it in December because you wanted to finish it and release the full version in February.
Hmmm, if it's not finished yet, you could release it in parts, but if you got it ready, I would vote for a full release. Just my opinion :)

It's a good idea I think...

Well... sadly due to delays which I have to say are completely my fault, it's not done. I thought I'd have it done by February, but it's proving more challenging then I thought. The Visual Basic Web Developer file takes ages to load and it's becoming a real nuisance.

The reason I want to release it in parts is because that way, at least I know I've actually released something rather than blabbing on about it over and over again.

I'll have the first twenty (at LEAST, if not more), up in March, with a subsequent thirty to follow. But from fifty onwards, I'm not happy with some of the techniques. I've had to re-do loads of them due to the fact that they were either USELESS or too similar to ones already in the AM help guide.

Some of my techniques are looking outdated, due to the fact they were written in November.

I'm sorry about keeping everybody waiting, I'm not lying to you. It's just hard to get these things done. Maybe I should have just bit my tongue and not actually given a release date eh? :P

Anyway, progress is being made, if that's what you're worried about.

Thanks...

Seeing as you're doing this on your own, in your free time, for free, for all of our sakes - I say thanks, and it'll be done when it's done! :)

Great, thanks :D

But what do you mean with

it is impossible as of yet to play video or music using VB Script.

It is possible to play sound and video from VBScript without any plugin.

PostPosted: Tue Mar 11, 2008 8:39 pm
by Lyberodoggy
Yep, you just need the sample procedure included in the help file of AM. But without that, it's impossible.

My apologies...
:D

I'll do what I said I'd do then... I'll replace it with a real technique. But I wrote that last november so its a bit out of date...

I'm also gonna improve the layout and fix those links. Think of it as a work in progress...

Just make sure you add a fixed version of the code (in the Help Documenti it's still not fixed).

Replace all GetPath(5) by GetPath(2), in order to make it work in the compiled projects. And make sure you add a note that all sound and video files must be copied into the External Folder, too. :)

Code: Select all
PlayVideo GetPath(2) + "filename.avi", 0, 0, 640, 480, False

Code: Select all
PlaySound GetPath(2) + "filename.mp3", False
