OpenExeFileAndWait (vs) ChangeDisplayResolution

Postby time-killer-games » Sat Mar 12, 2011 9:25 pm

Edit: Version 2 now available, rename your game to "run.exe" then compile the exe, placing this version in the same directory as your project prior to compilation. The ChangeResolution program will run your game automatically.

With most games when it is in full screen, the Esc key restores it to the normal resolution.

After downloading, you may now use the OpenExeFileAndWait method to change the resolution to whatever suits your game's pixel height/width best.

The benefit? - you may press the Esc key to close the invisible application that changes the resolution, thus setting it back to normal.

Here's ther resolutions included:

640x480
800x600
1024x768
1280x1024 (NEW!)

Have fun!

Could you please make it support custom resolutions or at least 16:9 aspect ratio resolutions?

Believe me, I would if I knew how, but unforturnatly the program I used to make these (YoYo Game Maker) doesn't support anything but what I've already made:

V3! This is much better than the old versions. This supports two more resolutions:

-1600x1200
-320x240

They only work if your computer has the hardware support.
The only way to close the new ChangeDisplayResolution programs are by using the WriteINI method to write an empty ini file with the following name:

"display.ini"

It must be written in the external folder where your resolution changer is located.

If you don't write it with that EXACT name and location, the resolution program will continue to run in the background as an invisble application that can only be closed by the task manager (Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete & Under the processes tab).
