looking for help on david the gnome game! relatively simple

While I am working on some pictures for Lyberdoggy, I am also working on my own project that revolves around an old cartoon show called david the gnome. right now as my classes have started and students file into my office asking why they failed last semester, on top of my family responsibilities I find im having less time, so i was wondering if anyone here would love the opportunity to open up AM and link together a map of almost 200 scenes/frames depicting various locations from the david the gnome tv series. All of the resources are together, i would simply need someone who wants to follow my map-like instructions lol and put the whole thing together.
i can tell you it would be greatly appreciated and i could find some way to compensate you if you like. if anyone is interested this is second to last version that i made for presentation to any prospective helpers on the project:

Thanks to anyone that responds! ill definately check this thread in a couple of days. (sooo busy!)

I'm not sure if I understand what you want...link the frames together?

If it is clear for me what you want and I can do it, I will try to help..

you got it, linking frames together. i have 200 frames and a map telling how to link them together with the arrow icons for the game, i just dont have enough time at the moment to do it, so it would take me forever lol not enough free office hours in the day and its job hunting season in japan. :(

thanks! im using some parts from a friends game and my own drawings and such for this david the gnome game. today when i head to the office im gonna finish putting the pictures into the frames, there is probably more like 300 something, but not all are actually used. then i will number them all and create the "map" so that if someone wants to help out , i can send them the pics, the map and the icons for connecting frames. ill upload it all here when i get it by the end of this week! (im on japan time if you didnt know lol)

hey thankyou! id appreciate the help! the only problem i am having now is my map. i tried to make a smaller version with the lines indicating which frames are connected to which and it keeps coming up as incredibly complicated, almost so much so that if you or anyone wants to help i might have to actually send through snail mail the map and disk with all the frames on it! but for now im still trying to see if i can find a way to make a map small enough to send through the internets.

I don't mind if you send it through snail mail (?) or something. I can send it back to you through my own website, no problem!

maybe you can break the map up in sections and create an overview of how the map goes together. Hope that makes sense! :P

When I need to get a large file to someone, I zip it and put it on RapidShare and then send the download link via email or PM.

I think it's the layout size and not the memory size that is the issue. With over 200 frames, drawing a map layout could be rather large!

yeah its not the size of the files so much as the map itself with the pictures glued to it is HUGE. i had to go to work and sit with it because theres no space in my apartment for it.

i will try taking pictures of it in sections on monday and get back to you all!

ugh, i havent gotten to try taking pictures of the map yet. the strain of having to look for a new job, a few interviews and then school and family are making it hard to find time to do anything other than a half hour of mindless ps3 time. i promise to those willing to help me i will get to it very soon!!

Take your time sugawara, don't worry. Let me know when you're ready.

And good luck for finding a job, I'm in the same position :(

Sorry to hear about your job situation. It's happening a lot around here also.

The client I'm working for decided to reduce my contract, so they can offshore the work to save money. I'll be looking for a new client at the end of this month.

dang, from the sound of it, i would bet your job is far more interesting than mine. you sound like a 3d modeler or an actual artist, something i just pretend to be lol. its tough being a foreigner in japan trying to find professor gigs though.

Actually, I work in IT, which can get very boring at times. I'm supporting the tools that 3D modelers use in my current contract. It's one of the best contracts I've ever had. (easy come, easy go)

Working in 3D modeling or as an artist sounds like a great way to make a living. I can't even come up with a down-side. :P

I'll give LazyP the first call. If LazyP wants my help, I'd be glad to assist!

I don't mind the credit, but I really enjoy helping out (no money needed)! :)

Tell ya what, how about a .5% in royalties if .5% is over $20! :D

If my math is correct, you would have to make $4000 before you had to start paying me! :P

Hey LazyP if you would like assistance? Do you want to split up the work? One of us will have to do half and then send it out to the other to finish it.

I don't mind if I have to do it alone or together with Reneuend. The only thing is I can't start before the weekend because I have a temporary very busy working schedule. If that is not a problem I can do it :D

$4000 ?? If you earn that much I do it for half the money reneuend does....$10 :P

I'm testing 2 different ways to map this out.

The traditional way with KeyGuard would be a monumental task. I think we can do this whole project with 1 frame and use a select statement to control the direction based on what frame the player is on. I'll build a sample project of each and send them to you to see what you think.

With just 1 frame, mapping becomes a whole lot easier. It's controlling everything else that goes on (animation, etc.) that gets interesting! :)

(update): OK...its like really late here (2am). I have 2 examples that I will send yall. I DEFINITELY like the 1 frame idea...very compact and easier to manage the scenes. The images will have to be cut to fit though.

hey guys! i appreciate all the help, whatever way you want to work it is awesome to me! i got to see the one gnome zip that ren uploaded and i loved it, i also know there is an easier way with less frames but im not sure how i would work it. for example what if i have the player talk to david on one frame but then need to navigate to a far off frame to talk to a different character? all of this using lyberdoggies fantastic avatar script. (give it a look since im not a programmer i had him explain it and modify it for my taste and i think its still up on the site, its fantastic.) if i can still input all of my previously learned stuff from lyberdoggies avatar thread so that the player can walk around the map talking to other characters and using objects AND use less work on frames, all the more power to ya!

Hello, i just read some of the previous posts, and if you need the original images i can post em for you, just let me know!

It original images are only good if they can drop nicely into the framed area; otherwise, I'll just take the time to cut up your supplied images.

I don't think there will be an issue with adding Doggy's code. There is always a way around things!

the original images are almost the exact size for the box on screen, and the frame itself is 1024x768 so they fit almost perfectly when i pasted em in through photoshop.

im gonna come up with na example of what i mean about lyberdoggys avatar script this afternoon at work if i can. i want to see how difficult it is to make a work around for all the avatars on individual frames, or if they can just be placed on a few key frames that are merged with other frames (since i never actually learned to properly merge frames and get it to work, hence the super large map with individually connected frames!)

lol last thing before i go to work, anyone know how to register keyguard 4? i got the code and whatnot, but have no idea what to do with it!

PostPosted: Tue Oct 20, 2009 11:35 pm

You need to get the registration key from ShadowHunter. Go to his website and/or PM him for the Key.

I don't like merging. :x

It limits you. I don't think you should use it. If we use just one frame, merging will be unnecessary.

Could you point me to Lyberodoggy's avatar thread? I'd like to read it.
