?Give your players the power to take real-time notes in your game!?

Brought to you by Reneuend & 3DGamer

Coming Soon! Windows7 compatibility

Purpose:

The AMJournal plugin gives a game player the quick and easy ability to record his or her own notes as they gather important information throughout their game play. The AMJournal not only allows the player to record text but also to insert images that they acquire as they go along in the game.

Image

Because AMJournal plugin uses graphical images on which the text and inventory images are displayed, the journal can be customized within your game to take on a natural look that blends in with the aesthetics of your game design.

You have full control on presentation:

-Change out the background to a notepad, computer screen, even a cave wall?whatever your game calls for when you want to display text in a scene.

-Change the icons as well to fit the genre of your game.

-You can even change the fonts!

Easy to use:

Image

In it?s simplest form you can use the Journal Page plugin on each frame you wish to have as a journal page. Then just add a hotspot on each of these pages to launch an inputbox (details are explained in the manual).

The slightly more advanced version gives you a one frame journal that has unlimited number of pages that are dynamically generated. The included demos are specifically designed around this method.

Features:

Image
AMJournal Inventory Icons

Image
Drag-n-Drop Quill icon to Journal icon.
Opens a new journal page for text entry.

Image
Drag-n-Drop Magnifying Glass icon to
Journal icon.

Opens journal to first page.

Image
Drag-n-Drop an object icon to Journal icon.
Opens a new journal page with the object image displayed.

Features inside the journal frame:
Image

Image
Turn to the previous page

Image
Edit the text for this page

Image
Close the journal and return to the game

Image
Turn to the next page
Image
Journal Open: Drag-n-Drop an object icon to the journal page on the right and an image will be added. You can drop another object icon on an existing image to replace it.

Image
Journal Erase Image: Drag-n-Drop the eraser icon onto the image on the journal page and the image will be removed.

Included in the AMJournal Plugin Package:

- AMJournal Plugin files
- 4 Demo files using 3DGamer?s amazing 3D Journal images and animation
- files for building a journal
- 5 Image Character Sets
- 46+ page manual
- Quick Code Set Up text file

The Plugin is free for you to use, but please read the disclaimer in the manual and EULA during installation.

Wow! this is a great plugin, with so many uses and so well organised. I 'm embarassed for what I 've released so far. Really great job reneuend ;)

Thanks everyone. We appreciate it. :D

Lyberodoggy: If you knew how many hours 3DGamer and I put into this, I think you might wonder what took us so long! 3DGamer is very good at finding the most obscure bugs. I didn't think I'd ever get finished with the code.

Did you notice? The first 3 responses were from Spain, Greece, and Belgium. This is where I need help for an update to the plugin. I'd like to make it so it will work with other language characters. I'm not familiar with how your keyboards are set up. The code translates keypresses, but how do i get access the upper ascii table? or should I take a different approach?

By the way, I guess you already know...It will be released on Friday (GMT -5)! :) It's pass due in your respective Countrys! I'll upload it tonight after 3DGamer and I have one last discussion. 3DGamer is reviewing the ZIP file to make sure it's well structured.

Thanks again!

He didn't know what to say..

Oops!

I've been having some of the same symptoms lately. I just assumed its because I've been in front of the pc to long. My solution is not to walk away from it, but to increase my caffiene intake and keep going!

Thanks everybody for the compliments. :) It was definitely a journey of learning for both of us and I can definitely say it was both fun and fruitful in the end. :) It definitely helped tweak my code sensibilities, too. ;)

I just like to thank Reneuend, again for doing this because it has come a loooong way since its inception! And I am glad that it blossomed into something the entire AM community could use and enjoy.

It was fun working with Reneuend and I look forward to working on future developments with him on this plugin regarding graphics, proofing, alpha-testing, etc. and any others that come along. :)

Congratulations Reneuend !! :)

It was quite a process wasn't it 3D! We both were emailing each other all night long right up to dawn! What an experience! Thanks for all your hard work. You definitely have an eye for detail!

Time for me to go celebrate my first plugin.....by working on a second one! :D

Tell me 'bout it! ;)

reneuend wrote:We both were emailing each other all night long right up to dawn! What an experience!

Yeah, I know. I think the only thing I had to get used to was trying to beat out the first bird of the dawn...as long as I didn't hear it, I was fine...but once I did, I knew I was in trouble! ;)

No problem at all...thank you! :D

The plugin is superb!

Things I would fix:
The whole interface and atmosphere is kinda spoiled by the VB pop-ups
If you input words bigger than the character count, nothing is displayed :(

Anyways, about the global character thing, there's no need to do anything. The developer can replace the images with the ones of their own alphabet, so, when those characters are called they will be displayed on screen

For example, instead of P my keyboard has the greek letter Pi (Π), the 3.14 thingy. So if I want the player to see that letter when he presses the P, I will replace the image of P with Π

I do not follow every tread daily, so I just noticed this. I think this plug-in is one of those things that AM needed. Good work guys. :)

Have you read the ReadMe file and the Manual included in the package?
They contain the necessary instructions :)

First copy
Journal.ocx
Journal.pl1
into the Plugins Folder of AM.

If you want to use all the graphics shown in the demo project, then follow additionally The Quick Method chapter in the Manual, which lists what files you need to add where in your own project.

If you want to set up your own journal with your own graphics, then follow The Not-So-Quick Method chapter in the Manual.

To see the demos provided, just copy the selected folders (e.g. AMJ - Ye Olde - Bordered - 640x480) into the Projects Folder of AM. Then start AM, and load this demo project.

Let us know if anything is not clear :)

Thanks for answering the question, Mystery! :-)

I haven't been around much due to demands from work. onyxeye2004 , if you have any specific questions on the plugin you may ask here or PM me.

Thanks for your interest!

NOTE: I tried to fix the image urls at the top of this thread but for some reason they won't display.

No problem reneuend :)

I think the links you're using are wrong for the pics.
You must put the direct links of the images between the image tags.
I tried to input one of the URLs in my browser, but it doesn't show a pic either. So I assume your links are wrong.
Let me know by PM if I can help you with that :)

The link doesn't seem to be working anymore :/ Atleast, not for me.

It doesn't work for me either now.
I have uploaded it to my server, and added the the link to the first post as alternative link, so that when reneuend has fixed his link, we'll have 2 download links (unless reneuend is against having a 2nd alternative link).

@Reneuend
Let me know :)
