Hello!

Postby Tommy Gun » Sun Jan 18, 2009 7:09 am

Hello everyone,

I am new to the Adventure Maker scene but I am loving it and would like to turn some of my ideas into reality with the program. I have become pretty familiar with most aspects of the program but I'd really like to take the next step and move into a 360 panoramic game.

I know that the answers I am looking for are probably on the forum already and I probably looked at them a couple times but I still can't figure out how to tweak a photo or graphic into the right shape for the cylindrical panorama projection that is required here. I've spent the past couple days searching for a good explanation of how to do this but every road I follow takes me to some program that either makes panoramic viewers or stitches a bunch of photos together.

All I would like to do is make graphics in photoshop and use them in the game. What I've done is taken one of my own photos, edited it a little bit to fit the needs of the games I am trying to create, but obviously the flat picture doesn't work well in the game. I've even downloaded a bunch of plug ins for photoshop but still no dice.

Can anyone help me turn a flat image into the graphic I need for a 360 game?

Hi Tommy Gun, welcome to the forums :)

Have you already taken a look at the tutorial in the Help Files?
http://www.adventuremaker.com/help/360_ ... norama.htm

(Btw, JFYI: apart from the cylindrical panorama feature, AM has also the cubic panorama feature http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=3811)

Thanks Mystery,

 Yes, I have read that tutorial a few times....however, when I open it from the 'help' link in the program, it now looks like it isn't nearly as long as the one that I see when I use your link. I'm embarassed because its such a simple solution and I've been searching for days!

I did follow the instructions though and it works pretty well. However, when I test the frame, my photo looks distorted near the bottom....almost like I am standing on a small hill. I assume that this could be blamed on the picture I am using?

I have installed the cubic panorama plug in but I haven't played with it very much yet. When I have tried it out, I have to cycle through a bunch of error messages before the game frame starts so I figured I would try to learn one thing at a time :D I don't suppose there would be a tutorial on how to use the cube option as well, would there?

Thanks again for the quick reply and great help!

Unfortunately I don't have experience with the cylindrical panorama feature, so that I don't think I can help you with your question about the distortion.
Maybe you could post a screenshot how it looks like, and someone with experience with it can give you some advice :)

In the first post of this thread, you can find some useful information how to use the cubic panorama feature:
http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=3588
Otherwise you can check this page for basic information:

Thanks again for the reply.

I guess I missed the part about not being able to have both the cubic and cylindrical plugins enabled at the same time, which resolves the errors I was getting. The cube does appear to be the better looking option so I really appreciate the tip!

As far as the restriction on using it in commercial projects, I'm not really sure where the line is drawn between commercial and non-commercial. You wouldn't happen to know where someone could find a more exact definition of would be, would you?

I hope this doesn't sound too rude or anything, you are by far a much better search feature than the forum's search bar

Glad I was of help :)

Noncommercial is when you earn no money with your project - in case you create a freeware game.
Commercial is when you sell your game, and get revenue from it.

You are allowed to use the cubic panoramic feature for freeware projects without the need to pay.
If you create a game with it (you also need the commercial license of AM to be allowed to sell your games), and sell it, then you have to pay a small fee if you sell more than 100.

Sorry to be annoying, but could you point me in the right direction to learn how to slice a picture up into the six required for the cube panorama?

Thanks for the explaination. That should work well with my plans.

Basically you need images of 6 sides of a cube:
1. up
2. down
3. front
4. left
5. right
6. back

To understand more what cubic projections are, you can check out this page:
