The future of Adventure Maker 2

Postby cc89 » Thu Mar 24, 2022 12:56 pm

Hey everyone, forgive me if this is getting old, but has there been any more word as to what's happening with Adventure Maker?
The games page has been offline for several years now, there hasn't been any word from the GM, and AM itself hasn't been updated
for ages... I'd hate to see it become abandonware at this point.

Hey cc89,

The last time I heard from the producer for Adventure Maker was September 23rd, 2020.
I' have sent him numerous emails since then but have never received a reply.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look good for the future of Adventure Maker.

I wish he would just release the full version as freeware I mean if he doesn't care about the software anymore and hasn't updated it for years at least people could enjoy using the program. I mean he could always have a donation type thing where you could pay whatever you like.

It's a shame but I liked the free version but can not purchase as there doesn't seem any way to do it.

I'm using GDevelop 5 at the moment

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I don't suppose there's been any more news regarding Adventure Maker?

The post title is misleading. There hasn't been any development on Adventure Maker in over 10 years. :(
You can still write games in Adventure Maker that still work with Windows, which is a testament to how well it was programmed.
It's unfortunate that not only was development ended, but the developer hasn't responded in several years.

I should post my code to turn AM in to a full program if he is not going to do anything with it.
Please don't PM me questions, ask here in the forums!

After all these years I am not sure if it's nostalgia that keeps me thinking about AM having a future, or if there are still some areas where it's a better tool than anything else on the market.

Nostalgia is a big driving force in and of itself. I 've had the thought of a community-backed, open source AM-like project for some years now, but didn't know where to start (which is also a testament to how monumental a task it must have been for a person to single-handedly build and maintain the engine so long ago and for so many years).
Should have been open-sourced long ago, IMHO. We could have provided it with some new life, back when it was even more relevant.

Exactly the way I've felt!

Not being able to contact GM for a very long time, but some how someone is keeping the lights on, is a huge mystery.
If you give up an a successful project (AM), why wouldn't you:
a) Still sell it as a passive income source
- I've had numerous requests to buy it, but I can't obviously sell or give away keys.
b) Sell the product to someone
- might be too late for this. However, it still works quite well.
c) Open source it.

it's frustrating because I can't find another product out there that is designed as well as AM to build simple adventure games.

and....I do miss the days when this forum was very active.

As for me, I'm still working on my projects, but not on a consistent basis. There are 2 projects I would love to finish, so I can stop thinking about them. :P
