Cylindrical Panoramas in HTML5 and Flash

Postby time-killer-games » Mon Feb 03, 2014 3:27 pm

I really wish panoramas could be used in the HTML
export, but I wouldn't be surprised if it never happened.
However in this topic I will show everyone that it is
at least possible to do. The panorama artwork I created
from scratch please don't link to or distribute these
links or their contents. It took forever to render them.

The only problem the cursor can't lock in the center of
the screen. So instead of moving the mouse to rotate
the camera, you have to click and drag. And to click
a hotspot you would click and release without dragging.
This is just a broad example and demonstration so
there are no hotspots.

Normally rendering a panorama onto a "3D" mesh
would require WebGL for HTML5, but this technically
only applies to Cubic and Spherical panoramas. It's
a tad difficult to explain but Cylindrical panoramas
don't necessarily need WebGL which is great
because WebGL isn't fully supported amoung most
web browsers. So basically this should always
work but with varying performance depending on
your browser or current device in use.

HTML5 (fast, but only works in modern browsers)
Panorama #1
Panorama #2

Flash (slow, but compatible with older browsers)
Panorama #1
Panorama #2

Also these are going to be used in my current game
project so also think of this as a little spoiler. =)
The trees in the scene are mystical; they don't grow
leaves because they don't rely on sunlight for life.
They have bark that magically glows a neon-green
and mildly lights up the cave.

Best Regards,
TKG

Nice. I like the flash panorama.

The HTML5 panoramas are not working in Mozilla Firefox, but in Google Chrome they are cool.

In Computer Graphics class we used HTML5 and JavaScript for WebGL. It was interesting, but too much code.

Those panoramas looks cool, keep up the great work. :-)

Thanks man. Yeah I agree I like to only code when I have no other option to accomplish what I want to achieve. And that's particularly why I like AM so much, I almost never need to code with it. It's very refreshing. =)

Yeah, that's the point I like AM too. But, now I'm learning the KG5 Studio from ShadowHunter. It's really powerful. Everything is clicking, but you have to do it right. :-)
