renaming frames in big games so hotspots work

Postby sugawara » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:21 am

Hello again!

I got some new questions i hope someone can answer.
I have a very large map for my game almost 100 different frames that the player can walk around on. Now, I found another thread on this forum giving instructions on how to make a game in pieces, such as in different projects and then connecting the projects together. In that thread, their was a question about using the same frames in different projects and then combining them. In this case it was said that the best thing to do is to rename the frames so that when the two projects are put together, it doesnt cause conflicts.

Now, like i stated i have a very large map, and I put it together in one large piece. I want to use the same map and same frames for part two of the project BUT i dont want to have to start from square 1 again IE, i dont want to take the pictures batch rename them, create a new project, then put 100 pictures and sounds together again with different names just for the purpose of keeping them seperate (not to mention, i think that if i connected two projects with 100 of the same frames it might cause problems in AM).

So my question then is, is there a way to take a finished project of just hotspots, frames and sounds, rename them with a slightly different extension, say if it is 5 days long, then d1throneroom.jpg d2throneroom.jpg etc etc etc, in Adventure maker?

I have tried to this point renaming IN adventure maker the frames in the project menu, and in the manage resources, HOWEVER, once i do that, then the hotspots dont work because they are expecting the frames with the old names. SO is there something that i can rename so that everything works and i dont have to remake a huge map 5 times in a row? simply rename them all in AM? and which files would I need to rename?

I hope that is clear enough! thanks for your help!!

Hi there...:D

Ok...I don't know if this will work for you..across projects..Like from what I understand you want to take the hotspots from one project and clone them persay in another..and use the same frames..?

Hotspot Magic...It does such a thing..but I don't know if it does it across projects...I use it often to clone hotspots on frames..within the same project..You can add sound..vbs scripting..text all of it..Its awesome..it really is..Now i don't know if this will work for what u want though..but it's an option for you..in the future or..u know this project..Sounds like you have a lot of hotspots..

Also what you can do..Copy the Project[uncompiled]--Paste--REname it in Windows Explorer....Then once it's open .You can add a frame through frame properties..with the hotspots already on there..Rename the frames outside of AM and import it in through t he frame properties..when AM asks u if u want to replace it...say yes..and the frame will be replaced but the hotspots will remain..make adjustments..?

Not sure if that makes sense or if i've lost sight of what we're doing here..lol..

I'll t hink on this as well...I saw this and thought to give u hotspot magic too...I know someone might have a better option of course..:) Or to let you know if what i've suggested can be done.

HotspotMagic

Adieux~
