Valid Language Error and Audio Error

Postby buxton » Tue Oct 16, 2007 5:55 pm

I know from what I have read in the forums that the Valid language problem is a common error, and that it has something to do with the game being installed on a machine that is not completely English, but though I have looked I cannot find any solution to this problem on previous posts, please forgive me if it is there, I wasn?t able to find it, or perhaps it isn?t something that can be solved? To ensure that those who do not live in an English speaking country are included is it possible to do anything about this error (error text listed below)?

An error has occurred. The program may not work properly. Click OK and then press Ctr+Q to quit. Error description: Error executing script. Make sure that you are not trying to execute a script while another script is being executed. The Script Engine returned the following error message: The operation could not be completed because the script engine has not been initialized to a valid language.

An error has occurred. The program may not work properly. Click OK and then Ctr+Q to quit. Error description: Error in BuildAllEventsList. The operation could not be completed because the script engine has not been initialized to a valid language.

Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this error means (and if you know what I need to do to fix it, so much the better :D ). I am not getting it on my computer so am not sure where to even begin looking for it:

Audio problem: Warning: Another program may be using audio hardware resources, and audio file may be damaged, or your audio drivers may be unable to play at the same time an audio file and the audio track of a video file. Although this error can be safely ignored, it may result in some sound files not being played. It is recommended that you close all the other window applications that are running and that you restart the program. This message will not reappear until you restart the program.

What is a little curious is that this message occurred when there was no sound due to be playing, it was just a regular hotspot directing the player to a different screen, I have been assured by the player that there were no other windows programs running at the time and otherwise the soundcard seemed to be dealing with the audio files without any problems.

I?d be interested in any ideas you may have, thank you for reading

Hi buxton,

The new build AM 4.4 Beta1 reinitializes the script engine language when the game starts.

I hope that this is enough to fix the bug. Please let me know if it does not fix it.

Thank you :) I will try that, any thoughts on the sound error?

I was actually incorrect in my earlier statement, there is an audio file initialized at this point  , could it be an error triggered by the sound file itself I wonder? I will try taking it out the next time I send it off to my tester, I hope that fixes the problem, but it is odd that this seems to be the only point there is a problem :?

Thanks

Hi GM-Support,

We are getting a problem with the game compiled through the new build AM 4.4 Beta1 files, my player (who is in Russia by the way, incase that is helpful to know), is receiving the following error message:

Run-time error '380': A script engine for the specified language can not be created.

And the game shuts down altogether :(

Let me know if you have any questions and if there is anything that can be done :), in the meantime I'll go back to the previous version.

Thanks

I am getting the '380' runtime error as well on my machine running WindowsXP - but not on my laptop running Vista - hmmmmmmmm

Any idea what is causing it?

Someone reported today he has this problem with my game (A script engine for the specified language can not be created, run time error 380).

What is exactly the problem?

Thanks

I think that we need to know more from that player, we don't have enough information to judge what might be wrong.

I've asked her now what OS language she has. I know that she has Asian roots, so I don't know if she is using an Asian OS or not. Let's see her reply and then look further :)

No problem :)
Yes, aliens like me have a topic scanner ;)

She has English Vista, which has however acted up on other new software aswell.

Hmm, we're not wiser concerning this error message, which has not quite been resolved yet as far as I can see from the previous posts.

From reading the posts....it sounds like the topic we had with Sound Cards and or Onboard sound..PPl with onboard sound..I beleive get this error when 2 sources of audio play at the same time..An error message will happen at the very beginning..either allowing the player to continue on..or shut down..

so I guess you can ask your user whether or not they have onboard or sound card ..?

On another note...;
Lovely time of year but...mosquitoes are back..:x
I must have killed about 700 of them sitting here..could hardly type this..lol..

I'm not sure, what is the difference of onboard or soundcard?

700 mosquitos? That would make me crazy! Don't you have screens for the windows

The problem only occurs on SOME onboard soundcards, but not others. I haven't been able to pinpoint the specific card(s) yet.

The problem itself has nothing to do with playing two audio files at once, as was originally thought. The problem has to do with the sound card being incapable of recognizing an audio file with a non-audio file extension.

Thus, the simplest solution to avoid this problem is to simply not encrypt the video and audio files of your AM project. Doing this makes the error message go away!

A simple check for this would be to go to the Areas subfolder of your already-compiled project and rename all the audio files to their proper extensions, then test the game. You will find that the error message has disappeared. :)

What? It has to do with the audio files' encryption?

A script engine for the specified language can not be created.
But what has audio file encryption have to do with languages?
Now I'm really confused

unfortunately, I can't check it because I don't have the problem on my computer.
I see wav and mp3 files in my Area folder. I only use 3 small wav files in my game. What are the proper extensions??
