(solved)animation pg but black screen (mp4 and K_Lite Codec)

Postby reneuend » Sat Dec 22, 2018 2:40 pm

In order to reduce the size of my animations, I converted my avi files to mp4. This worked great up until a few weeks ago. Now it runs, but the screen is black.
I got the latest (standard) K_Lite Codec package, but that didn't seem to help. I even tried tweaking the settings (which I know very little about).

If I put it in as avi files it will be several gigs in size. I doubt anyone will want to download it.

:?: Any ideas on what to do to fix this? I'm sure there is a way, I just haven't found it.

I promised to release chapter 1 of my game, "Gone Squatch'n" by Christmas, but now without the animation displaying, I don't think I should. :(

I compiled a small AM game and tested it on my machine. No Luck, but I didn't expect it to work since it wasn't working inside AM either.
Now I need to test it on someone else's Win10 machine. Stay tuned...

btw, I remember a few years ago (probably when Win7 came out), that there was a similar issue. The fix was to turn off the hardware accelerator. I couldn't find it on my machine. And this does make sense because I just changed my GPU from GTX660ti to GTX1060.

UPDATE!

I tested the game on another computer that is running a GTX970 gpu and it worked. This tells me that the newer gpu's are not working 'as is'.

To get mine to work (since I can't find the hardware accelerator to turn it off), I disabled the gpu driver. The nice part is that it is easy to turn on and off as needed. The sad part is that I can't ask users to turn off their device drivers.

I finally got the video working using MP4.
The trick was reinstalling K-Lite Codec pack and during the process there is an option to change from VMR9 as the default renderer instead of VMR7. This should be checked!
After that, my videos started displaying instead of getting a black screen with just sound.
