Checkbox Question

Postby Mystery » Tue Aug 08, 2006 2:09 am

I would like to work with checkboxes. I have found in the help files how to load a checkbox, however I haven't seen any examples how to use it exactly. I looked at VBScript tutorials but I'm lost with the different types of checkboxes that are mentioned there.
So my question is: how do I trigger an action as soon as a checkbox has been checked?
I'm sure it is easy but I can't find it out and would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

maybe you could create a timer so that when if checkbox1=1 then...
then you could just make the timer 1/10 of a second

Thanks for your reply dk627.
However I'm still not sure how I start the script. How do I "catch" the action of checking the checkbox? An action should be triggered on mouseclick in the checkbox, and this mouseclick is what I don't know how to script (scripting the action on mouseclick is no problem). Or do I have to assign a value to the checkbox? I'm still confused, sorry. :?

There's a few others that would know but I don't think they come by to offen now.
Send him a email see if he is gone yet.

Thanks again for your reply, Candle, I will do so. :)

I want to finish my extended version of my latest game, so if he won't be around anymore I'll probably work around it and use this feature for my next game.
Why do I always have so strange ideas to try and use things that I can't do without help? Well at least I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Hi Mystery,

This question was asked long time ago too and "as far as I know" there is no way to capture the "Onclick" event when a control such as a checkbox is checked...

There are two things that can be done... coding it into a plugin or simply use a "fake" checkbox by using hotspots and a variable to remember the state... personally I would go for the last solution and make a clean routine.

Again, GM might know an easier solution...

Kind regards,

Thank you very much (again!) for your quick reply ShadowHunter :)
I haven't found any similar topics on the forums but the thread is probably gone after the issues from last year.
No problem, I can work around it - I just thought that it would work as the CheckBoxObject is mentioned in the helpfiles.

By the way I'm finishing the extended version of my new game soon using the CommonDialog and you'll get a copy (or probably the download link) of course :D

Have a nice vacation, you have deserved it :D
