Problem with Rippling Water FX

Postby Von Knudenberg » Tue Feb 05, 2008 8:24 pm

I would like to ask you about this one problem I have had during this short period I have used Adventure Maker. I thought someone could know solution, or know if this is common situation or not...

It conserns that "Rippling water FX". Sometimes (almost always) when I use Rippling water FX, as example, to create smoke effect etc. the frame sways when changing from frame (without FX) to frame (with FX). Frames are exactly with same size and there doesn't need to be any other changes, and it doesn't matter if the area of FX is small or big. Is there something which I haven't seen yet, or is this somekind of common AM problem or bug. It seems like frame is changing its place a little bit after FX frame appears.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

With best regards,
Pete

Test "game" added to first post. Just couple of frames with Rippling water FX included.

When in "game", just take a close up to water sink and use the faucet. There I can see that little flickering, or swaying (I don't know the best word for this) when water appears. It is little, but still annoying when used many times.

Please, if you have time, test it and report if this occurs.

Best regards,
Pete

I wanted to try it, but I can't get a close-up of the water sink, it's at the very bottom of my screen and I just see the top of it.
Do I miss the hotspot, or did you use images with a very big resolution :?:

Yes, resolution is 1024x1024. This is because this is from project I had to do with cubic resolution and I sticked with 1024 instead of 800, or 640... Maybe I should resize it, at least to 800x800.

I'm sorry I didn't mention this.

Okay! I did some "seek-and-resize" and now the first post includes 800x600 version. Frames are now a little bit stretched, but the main thing should now be seen. Watch carefully, as that movement between non-FX and FX is very small, but still it can be seen (at least my computer think it is okay to flash those frames a little bit!).

Thanks for the smaller version, I've been able to try it now :)

This is what I see:
When going to the FX screen after turning on the tap, the screen moves a bit down.
I don't see any such "movements" after the water stops running.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean and see also!

Thank you, Mystery, for proving that I'm not in need of any major eye-surgery. Not just yet :)

But I would like to know what causes this. Those two frames should be identical besides that FX. And this is common problem (if the word "problem" is right word here) when I use Water Rippling FX. Maybe there is some way to avoid this...

Yeah, I have thought that too. And in that case, I just have to use it as it is, with that little movement. It isn't so big problem, but it brakes the illusion a little bit (in my opinion).

hi pete,

Are you using a fade effect also between frames?
This will cause the frames to move slightly when using the ripple effect.
try removing the fade.

On my projects i saw the same thing.
Just a thought

Hi, AncientRein,

Thank you for that suggestion. I just have tested it and it still did that little movement. I had transition between those frames (just like you thought), but removing alphablending transition didn't fix that frame movement. But I'll do some more tests to see if this would help in other projects...

Best regards,
Pete
