Trying to Understand File Extension Types...[SOLVED]

Hi there again,

Could someone please help define the following file extension types found in AM; I am trying to understand what they are and what they exactly do:

1) FME - (I think this is the frame type, yes?)

2) LKS -

3)

FM0 -
FM1 -
FM2 -
FM3 -

(Why are there some many of these types of files and why do they stop at FM3?)

Hi,

Go to my website, click Using Flash and read the manual: all is explained there... below already a part of my article :wink:

4.2.1.1 The Hotspots
The information of the hotspots is stored in the folder ?Areas? located within your project folder. In the ?Areas? folder you will find other folders with the same name as the frames you have used (only if they have hotspots on them). Open such a folder and you will see some *.dat files. Each hotspot has a xa.dat and a xb.dat file where x is the number of the hotspot.

The xa.dat file contains information about the appearance of the hotspot.

? Position and size
? Transparent, regular picture or animated GIF
? Animated GIF speed
? Cursor
? Variables to make it visible or invisible
? And so on?

Tip: The size and position of the hotspot is defined in twips, to convert it to pixels you should divide it by 15.

The xb.dat file contains information of what should happen when a hotspot is clicked.

? Sound properties
? Movie properties
? Go to frame
? Display text
? Hide hotspot
? Execute Visual Basic script
? Transitions
? Variables to change
? Add item
? And so on?

Please note that some parameters use more than one line of text. For example: when you want to display a text message you will find a line that says 0 = ?no text? or 1 = ?yes, show text?, related with this line is the line holding the actual text string and there is a line telling it to display in 0 = ?a message box? or 1 = ?at bottom of the screen?.

When you use ?Items on Hotspots? you will also find a file with the extension *.obj. These files contain the information similar to the xb.dat file and can be edited similar.

You will also find some other files in this folder like a *.lbl file, this file contains the text information in case you should have used text on the frame. None other than the xa.dat and xb.dat files are important for hotspot manipulation.

4.2.1.2 The Frames
The properties of the frames are joined in a single *.fme file located in the ?Frames? directory of your project folder. If you have used hotspots on a particular frame you will also have a *.lks file. The lks file contains one line of text representing the number of hotspots on that frame. It?s of no importance in frame manipulation, nor are the other files that can be found in this directory.

The structure of the fme file is very similar to the hotspot *.dat file and is also easy to manipulate.

4.2.2 Version 3.3.0 and up
The biggest change since version 3.3.0 is the combination of all the xa.dat and xb.dat files into a single file.

4.2.2.1 The Hotspots
This time the files are saved into the ?FramesData? folder that which is also located in your project folder. Notice that the ?Area? folder is empty (besides the audio, video and some other files). They have the extension *.fm0, *.fm1, *.fm2 and *.fm3. They are not all necessary present in your project folder.

? *.fm0: Contains the *.obj files - (see version 3.2.2)
? *.fm1: Contains the *.lbl files - (see version 3.2.2)
? *.fm2: Contains the xa.dat file - (see version 3.2.2)
? *.fm3: Contains the xb.dat file - (see version 3.2.2)

The structure of all these files is the similar to version 3.2.2 but they are all placed after each other separated with this line: "----- SEPARATOR -----". The number of the hotspot is located near the separator.

When you click on a hotspot the engine file in question is accessed and the corresponding xa.dat and xb.dat files are unpacked in the ?Temp? folder. They are deleted immediately after they have successfully been read.

Ah.. again your so handy..!~ so is your website..:D Funny i had put lks was sort of a text file!~..then i erased it when i saw all the files that were somewhat related to ur plugin..Seems the search on my pc, those files we're more prominent at first..so I took a bigger guess..maybe I should have left it..? :lol: Thanks Again Shadow..!~ I was just looking at your website today...missed that..:P
