Cursors, icons and transparency problem...

Postby xerilon » Wed Jan 13, 2010 12:24 pm

I have been reading all these posts on the subject, and the more I read the more I get confused

Is there any way to make icons/cursors larger than 32x32 ?
Now with high resolution monitors 32x32 gets uncomfortably small...
Is it possible to use alpha channels with semi transparency for smoothest looking results? Lets say I want to make a magnifying glass cursor with real glassy appearance (with highlights and such) instead of an empty hole.

I usually make my icons rather big ready for resizing. Scaling down in PS gives antialiased edges which would be fine if it looked good in AM, though it gives white/colored edges.

I also downloaded Irfanview but when I want to save as .ico I don't get the "choose transparency color" option. Blah!!

I am now stuck with a folder of useless "test subjects" and I feel I have tried everything (though I most certainly have not)

I haven't tried bigger cursors yet, so I can't say anything final on that.
I know though that with ShadowHunter's Keyguard it's possible to use bigger cursors, also in other file formats.

However for Irfanview:
Did you check the box "Save Transparent Color" when you used save as... ?

If you do check the box, you should get the option to click on the color that should be transparent.

Thanks mystery, I didn't know I had to check BOTH boxes for it to work.
:)

When I now import the cursor I can see that the size works fine even if its a bit small, so I'll stick with it.
I'll try out Keyguard in a while, thanks for the tip

If you want to make them bigger..you can try imagicon as well...It's a simple program...only made for icons..Although Irfanview is good too..:D I like this one for its simplicity..You can simply drag whatever picture u want..right into it..BMP's work best..to convert :D
