HOG and Inventory

Postby gposchman » Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:09 pm

I have decided to build my own inventory because I want it at the bottom of the screen and to use the same area for HO words when in those screens. The game design is such that they won't overlap so that should be fine.

I am using an array for my inventory and hot spots for display with arrows to move images passed the hot spots using the inventory array, I did this with gameMaker, that way I can have a pretty sizable inventory, though I shouldn't need an array bigger than twenty. I assume if I put this in global procedures that it will be available to every Frame.

For the HO word portion, I am going to use text-boxes with an array for each frame and I will animate a cross out with a hot spot moving across each text box as an item is found. Because of the repetitive nature, functions will serve me well with this.

Before I start these to projects I wanted to make sure I wasn't reinventing something that already existed.

Let me know, please.

Ho and Inventory

Actually I was only interested if someone else had followed the line before me. I intend to make the functions as generic as possible and when I am done if anyone is interested in the design or code, let me know and I will provide it as is, just want credit.

Ohh..ok..yes..You're free to make your game or code open source..then if anyone else uses it...they will give u credit.

You can either make it into a plugin..or a game demo--[using a few frames-with all coding]

..I would make it a demo.. you can do it similar to what Shadow does with his plugins..They are open source..and we are free to use them..provided we give credit and so on..:)

Thanks!~..I look forward to it..:D

Unfortunately, not.

You can use delimited lists instead of arrays and it works much the same way.

I created several routines to work with lists like count, sort, find, ...
I think I have a tutorial in the tutorial section.

(update) If your interested, this is how I get around the lack of global arrays.
