While testing my game a friend finds my opening screen[1024x768] is too large [left & right] for his monitor. Is the problem his monitor settings or my game setup?

I think it's the monitor setting.
try it out.let him change his settings to 1024x768 and you will see the problem is fixed

If the player has his properties resolution at "800x600" how can I have the screen change to the "1024x768" game resolution. Do I put a message saying "This game runs at "1024x768" game resolution. Please change your property settings if needed"

Thanks! My first menu screen now has the script "Action.ChangeDisplayResolution 3". This alone should take care of my problem since "Load new game" & "Load saved game" are part of it.

A further update. If you use the the script "Action.ChangeDisplayResolution 3" it solves the problem for people with screen resolutions of 800x 600 but makes larger monitors stretch. I think the only way is to warn the few people with screen resolutions of 800x 600 to change their properties to "1024x768"

I'm using for my game a resolution of 800x600 and play it on one computer wich has normaly a resolution of 1440x900 and on the other one wich has normaly a resolution of 1280x800.
On both monitors I have np problems with streching.
I also have tried it with a resolution of 1024x768 without problems

I wonder if you don't notice it stretched if you don't see for example: "round objects more oval". Also remember by putting the code "Action.ChangeDisplayResolution 3" I'm forcing the screen to a 1024x768 resolution even if its a large monitor.

Just as an information:
I have a wide screen monitor with the resolution 1440x900, and I am indeed experiencing such a stretch with my own games (game with 640x480 screens used, but with display resolution change to 800x600).
Objects become a bit "distorted" (e.g. an oval form instead of an orb).

Oh you're right. I didn't have noticed that before, but know I have checked it with a cirlce on the background.
This is no solution for this problem, but it might help you to warn the user or dont change the resolution!
