Monkey Island Clone

Postby nanomag » Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:15 pm

Hi,

Am new to this but have seen how easy Adventure Maker is to use. Would really like to produce something like Monkey Island. Here's a bunch of questions:

1. In the Dialogue Wizard how do you make it come up with a new question once you've clicked on one? At the moment all I can do is make all the questions appear at once.
2. How do you make the answers appear above the character you are talking to?
3. How do you add characters?
4. How do you trigger an animation for the character to look like they are talking?
5. How do you get a character to chage their set of answers after you complete a task?
6. How can you make the character give you an item that goes into your inventory after you ask the right question?
7. How do you create a character that walks around the screen?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh my! You could write a book answering these questions! :-)

Hmmmm....not a bad idea! :-)

The best way to start is to work on small projects. With each project, concentrate on a certain functionality. Actually, that's the best way to do it even after you've been working in AM for awhile.

Lol! If that book existed would definitely buy it. Would it involve scripting?

Well, it would involve a lot of scripting if I wrote it. But longtimers like Mystery know how to use AdventureMaker inside and out. Mystery might deny it, but don't believe it! :-)

Can you wait a year for the book to come out! :D

I would suggest first just build some small projects to get use to AM. It didn't take me long to learn it. AM is the best written game development tool I've ever used and it has a lot of power. LOTS! Because you can tap into VB6 via plugins, it's almost limitless what you can do.

ShadowHunter has released some of the best plugins that adds a lot of new features to AM. KeyGuard being the best in my opinion. You can see tutorials on it in the tutorial section. Also, I wrote some articles on it in the AM_Magazine section.

Hang around in the forums and you'll find a lot of helpful people.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forums nanomag :)
As others have suggested, take it step by step, and read the Help Files:
http://adventuremaker.com/help/contents.htm

Some of your questions will be answered by reading them, and for remaining questions, don't hesitate to ask on the forum again :)

Have fun with AM!
