339 Error with comdlg32.ocx

Postby LadyRavenwood » Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:46 pm

Hello, I'm new to the forums and new to Adventure Maker. I just downloaded and installed the free version and every time I try to run the program, I get this error...

Run-time error 339
Component 'Comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Now, I've uninstalled and reinstalled AM several times, rebooted several times, downloaded and registered a new copy of the ocx file, rebooted and reinstalled again and I still keep getting the 339 error.

I've searched the internet for a fix to this problem for two hours and nothing I find seems to work.

I'm running Vista Home Edition the 32bit version.

I really want to try this program out. I deeply appreciate any help in getting this program up and running.

Thank you for the welcome!

Yes, I have it set as admin. When I registered the new ocx file I received a message saying it was successful, however, I still get the same error when I try to start up AM. It is a complete mystery to me why none of the recommended fixes will work.

Are you following these steps?

First, you must be logged onto windows with an administrator account.

Go to Start / All Programs / Accessories.

Right click on the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator in the menu.

If you see a UAC popup, select the Yes button.

Type the following command carefully, including the space.

regsvr32 Comdlg32.ocx

Press ENTER

You should see a message saying the command succeeded.

Close the command window.

Yes, I am logged on as the admin. I've also done every step to the letter several times. I got a message saying it was successful, however, I still get the same error. I've even tried rebooting after and still no dice. I really have no clue what is going on. An evil gremlin living in my pc or something... :?

(update)Logging in as Admin isn't enough. I thought so too, but you need to do the following trick to get it to work.

I had a similar issue, but found that I was NOT right clicking on the command window and selecting "run as administrator". Please forgive me if you are doing it this way, but I thought I was doing it correctly at first also until I figured this out.

right-click on the command window icon from accessories

click on "Run as Administrator"
