Installed Games Failing to Run

Postby Greatgentlegiant » Sun Oct 09, 2011 7:07 pm

Greetings, forum! Glad to finally be on here. Big shout out to Shadowhunter for helping me get access.

So, here are my two problems. Not sure if they're related or not.

I recently downloaded version 4.6.1 and then purchased the
full version in order to create exe. games. Shortly after buying it,
I did a test run, exporting one of the sample games. When I did and
subsequently tried to play it on my Windows 7 computer, I got this
error message:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of
Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to
see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the
program, and then contact the software publisher."

That's all. The program installed, but refused to run. Considering I
purchased the full version exclusively to create playable games, I
need to get this problem fixed. Perhaps the problem is I'm compiling for the wrong system, aka. Windows 98, but I can't find a way to change which system I'm compiling for.

The second problem is every time I open the program, I get this error message:

"Warning! Your system is set to use large fonts. Adventure Maker
will NOT work properly if you don't change this setting.
To use small fonts (which is the Windows default, just go to the
'Control Panel' (from the 'Settings' menus of the Start Menu),
double-click 'Display', click the 'Settings' tab, click 'Advanced...'
and select 'Small Fonts' under 'Font Size'. Click 'OK' and restart
your computer.
Do you want to continue anyway? (not recommended)."

I am set to small fonts, and even though I have asian languages
installed, I was sure this problem was fixed in the recent update. At
least, according to the program.

Please, any help you can provide would be appreciated. I have tried
and failed several times to reach the creator, but he has yet to
respond. I really do enjoy this program and hope to create games with
it, but unless I can get it to work, I'm going to have to ask Kagi for
a refund.

I use the commercial and full version 4.6.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. After I compile, the exe works on Windows 7 and Windows XP (these are the only systems I test on). Have you had other versions of AM on this OS? I'm wondering if maybe the registry entry is incorrect. You might want to uninstall AM and then find all the related registry settings and delete those before reinstalling. This is just guessing on my part. Some of the best people to answer this question haven't been on this forum in the past few months. "Mystery" is one of them.

I've never seen the Font error before. Can you uninstall the asian language and see if that was the issue? If so, could you set up a virtual PC using XP? It's a free setup and easy to do. AM won't work in virtual mode, but most everything else does.

Of course, it would be best if GM could answer your issues. I hope you get it fixed.

Hey, Reneuend! Thanks for the response. I?m pretty sure I know what the problem is now. Which gives me another question to ask you and the forum at large.

So, here is what?s happened. Before I downloaded 4.6.1, I got a copy of 4.4.0 of another website. Downloaded it, played around with it, enjoyed it. Then I discovered it was a pirated full version.

I immediately went out, downloaded 4.6.1 off the main site and purchased the full copy. But here?s the thing. I think part of that original download stuck around. I think that while AM says it?s 4.6.1, it thinks it?s 4.4.0. I?m getting error messages from the previous version and the exe. files are for windows 98 only.

So, here is the question. Has anyone else had this problem and gotten it resolved? Because I?ve uninstalled and reinstalled AM about five times, restored my machine from before I downloaded it, and deleted my registry of all AM files. Nothing has helped. Is there anywhere else that AM stores information on my computer?

Because if I can?t get this resolved, I?m going to have to reformat my entire computer, and that?s just a pain in the butt. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It almost has to be in the registry. It is probably hard to find.

Also, be sure that after uninstalling that the adventure maker directory is completely gone!

A couple options you might try:
(after uninstalling AM and deleting the AM directory)
1. Run a registry cleaning tool. I use RegCure.
2. Try to do a system restore to a date before you had put in the early version of AM.

If these don't work, then you'll probably have to reformat your hard drive. :? At least it sounds like you know what you're doing!

I second what reneuend said. It's most likely the registry, so don't format your hard drive just yet.

I think you're getting that error..because the games made for AM-- the sample games..are made with a previous version..

What i would do is make a small game of your own...2-3 frames..add some hotspots...

Then compile as exe...

See if that helps..or at least perhaps it might alleviate any concerns u might have with your own games..

As for LARGE fonts..and Asian Characters..; Part 2

Hope that helps..:)
