Error when trying WMV or MP4 file for full screen Video

Postby reneuend » Sun Dec 11, 2011 9:29 pm

I'm getting an error when trying to use the Action tab - play a video option under the Frame properties. It works fine with AVI files, but I'd like to use WMV or MP4 instead because they are a much smaller file size.

Error:

Code: Select all
Error Description: Error while attempting to play the following video file: "my_video.wmv". Method '~' of object '~" failed

Any ideas???

..there is a period after

"mercedes_splash.wmv" . ---right here..could that be it..or is that part of the error..

Also..I can't say i've ever seen that one where there is ~ in it..and i've seen almost every error..I swear..

It looks to me..as an error..unknown..by AM

Is there any chance that your media player..hasn't got mp4 checked off as a video to play in it..?

I'll look around the forums..

I wish it was just a period. It's just a period in the error message. I tested the wmv file in the project folder and it ran just fine from windows explorer. I have a feeling that AM doesn't like the file for some reason.

Either AM doesn't like it.... the newest version of AM...or Windows7 and AM doesn't like it...Really looks like an Unknown error...

How about XP and same video..u try that yet..assuming u are in 7 right now..

I haven't tried XP yet. I've got this feeling that it would probably work in XP. I'm going to try it from a subroutine and see if that will work in Win7 first.

UPDATE: with the video subroutine, only AVI files will work!

I guess I'm going with AVI files... It's going to make the project much larger, but it will allow Win7 users to play the game.

You could make the movies in AVI with XVID codec, that works and will make the movie files much smaller in size.
But others who play the game must have it too for it to work.

Thanks Velorond. I'm definitely going to have to do something like that with the current game I'm working on.
