rippling water with hotspots

Postby mbc841 » Mon May 09, 2016 3:32 pm

When I have a rippling water effects mask covering a graphic hot-spot, the graphic hotspot doesn't show. Any idea how to remedy this? (I have an ocean background - and a graphic hotspot in the center of the frame that is supposed to be visible as long as a variable is at 0, but the hotspot won't show up when I test the frame).

Thanks!! :)

Hmmmm.... this might be the same kind of issue of having a hotspot over the top of an animation.

I think there is a way around this using KeyGuard and defining pseudo-hotspots simply be defining the area as a hotspot. I haven't tested this theory, but simply put, you would check a mouse-click and if it occurs within a certain area, then you would do whatever event you wanted to do.

does that make sense?

that kind of makes sense - I haven't used KeyGuard yet. I will give it a shot. Thanks!

If I get a chance, I'll build an example and share.

Thanks! I downloaded KeyGuard and am trying to learn it. I've never played with it before.

it's only the most awesome plugin made for AM! :-)
I made some tutorials on it that you can either view or read. see my signature below to get to the magazine. The videos might be linked from there, or they are in the tutorials forum.
I'll get to work on an example.

one other question on the rippling water effects feature: my frames are 1280x720. When I go into rippling water effects mode it only seems to capture part of the frame - I drag my red cursor box around the entire width of the frame but it still cuts off a part of the right edge of the frame. Any ideas why? Anyone else have this issue?

I haven't used the rippling water feature before. I'm not sure how it works. I'm guessing, but perhaps it has a margin along any edge of the screen???
btw, I haven't forgotten about testing a pseudo-hotspot on this effect or video hotspots. I had to rebuild my computer and haven't had a chance to sit down at my computer since that time.
I should probably play with the rippling water while I'm at it too!

Let me know if you come up with anything.

thanks Reneuend! Actually - I can drag the rippling water effects red box to the very top, bottom or left edge of the screen and it captures it fine - its just the right edge. It gets the right edge on smaller frames (800x600) but on large frames, like mine, (1280x720), when I open a frame in edit mode - the frame is off the left edge of the monitor screen and I have to drag it to the center to work with - and its at that point that when doing the rippling water red-box it seems to leave off the right edge when it first captures it. I'll keep playing with it - I'm thinking of playing with the .rwm file to see about editing that.

Have you tried in game mode as sometimes things change from edit mode to game mode. make the exe and try that see how it looks.
Does that make cents?

I haven't tried compiling the .exe file and running it - but I have tried actually running the project - and it cuts off the rippling water in that. I figured out how to work around - I set my pc resolution to the highest possible for editing - and then the whole frame gets captured in rippling water - so I'm good for now! Thanks!!! :) :)
