Dwarf cottages

Postby Mystery » Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:34 pm

Hi
I just started to make my first experiments with 3D (maybe 2 weeks ago, usually in the late evening) - even if I was warned by Harvesters posts about the struggles with 3D.
Slowly I found out more and more things. I'm working on two different things: dwarf cottages/villages on one hand and furnishing apartements on the other hand.
I thought I would show you the first (yet unfinished) screens of the dwarf cottages. I have made them smaller for upload, they are bigger in real. As you see, I'll have to work on some more details but I'm happy that I have come so far - it wasn't easy
I would appreciate your feedback and your comments/ideas/hints.

Hi,

I think you are making very nice scenes. I really like the rock and the plants -maybe because they're things which i can't create yet :( . Good luck for your modelling-studying! I hope I could improve my skills as fast as you did... since I started 3d modelling the most complex object I made was a user interface design and a toilet :) So I need to learn much too...

Thank you, Harvester (k?sz?n?m sz?pen  ). It is really hard to control a 3D program and make what YOU want and not what IT makes. But with every trial and error series you learn more. It is really amazing what possibilities such programs provide - if we only could use those possibilities... But there are moments as you already mentioned when you are very proud of creating someting that you wanted (e.g. I was proud to find out how to mix up colors and match materials to get a real looking wooden surface; or it was a happy moment when I managed to create champagne glasses).
I hope that we can present really good artwork as we proceed with our experiments and our experience :)

I hope so :) My happiest moment was that when I finished that house. It was really great to see that I managed to create my own model.

How much Hungarian do you speak? :D

Much (at least for everyday conversation), cause it is my mothertongue. But I have little knowledge about specific language (like administration, economics, pc, business) because I'm living aboad for 25 years now. I understand also a lot when people are talking about those specific things, but my active vocabulary is not sufficient for those topics. :)

Thank you for the compliment. :)
I'm just about to work on details so that the surrounding looks like there is really somebody living. And I also want to save more zoom pictures of some cottages and some areas when I finish the overview scenery. It needs a lot of work but I'm enjoying it more and more.

I have been working on details, new screens and on characters. Well, I suddenly got the idea of adding some characters but after some days of trial and error, reading tutorials etc. I wasn't sure anymore if I ever would be able to create my own characters. This is incredibly hard and I had no experience at all.
But after a lot of nightshifts of work, I was able to build some characters. I know that they are not perfect but I think it's already a good start. And I'll keep on learning and gaining experience.
So I add here some new pictures (and the dwarf colony with some more details than the last time) for you to see, enjoy :)

Now that the game is finished and I got some feedback, I'm about to change some features. I will make a version 2 that should run stable for every player.

Here some more impressions.

Thank you very much for your nice feedbacks, you cheered my up :)

Harvester, if you would like to play this game, just wait for the better version 2. It will soon be ready.

(Meanwhile you could try some of my recent room escape games and see if you can get free  . Just in case: you can find the URL to my homepage in my profile info).
