In Somnia - The Sequel

Postby Mystery » Sun Mar 29, 2009 2:02 am

I have finished the second (and last) part of In Somnia.

You can download it from here:

Here's a sneak peek (made most stuff myself except textures and basic character without clothes):

Nice screens, Mystery. I had a rush of nostalgia for the original Myst when I saw your first screen. Maybe the sky and the clarity of the colors? Anyway, I'll hope to play this and do better than I did on the first one. :P

Yeah, I'm a Myst fan :D
Thank you, that's a great compliment for me! :D

Lol, you're still stuck in the cave in the first part? :P

Yes... ::hangs her head:: I went back to the game four times and have to admit that I never got farther than gathering the little disks and "breaking" the disk in the pavillion. I could not figure out the order for tapping the "buttons" nor how to use the clue above the cave.

"Hangs her head"? Man, who else here is a girl? :P We really ought to have little icons near our avatars that specify gender.

The graphics look even better than the original. I'm looking forward to trying it... as soon as I beat the first one too.

LOL  Yep, there are quite many girls/women who use AM :P
Maybe if we switch to a new forum version, there will be a mod to show the gender.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the screenshots :D
Good luck with the first part :)

UPDATE:

In Somnia - The Sequel goes open beta. :D

The game has been tested a lot, but there might be still bugs hiding. I'd be happy if you could take some time to play it, and to report me any bugs that you find, thank you! :)

You can download it here:
www.mysterys-games.ch/insomnia2_betav2.exe

Once again, you need the XVid Codec installed before starting.
All important info can be seen in the ReadMe file.

If we're not in a hurry, I hope this weekend or next week I can play it :)

EDIT:
Well, I couldn't wait and tried it out today. I use Vista Ultimate x64 and have tried the game out with an oldest and the latest Adobe Flash Player; in both cases the game missies the flash component and so I get to see some things and lots of error messages. I will try it out on another system since my Windows is a crap now and I'm not sure if it's its fault or the game's. About my first impressions: the atmosphere is great, the places are well made, I like the background music also. Only problem is that there are some notes with nicely textured background and there are some on pale onecolour background which looks plainly ugly. I made some progress in the game; the texts are well written, and I guess puzzles are quite good too but will concentrate on them more. If I get it work well on a system I will definitely play it through and will try to catch all bugs or so since it's a beta test, isn't it? I'm impressed.

Thank you for your feedback Harvester! :)

You are right, that screen with the note is ugly, I'm going to replace it for the final version :)

I had never any problems with the Flash Plugin, no matter what computer I used, but I have heard from players that a few of them had issues.

One player gave me the following feedback after I tried to help him:
I found a FlashUtil9a.exe. Running that updated my flash version and solved the problem.

lolz...

You may laugh, but I've never played adventure games before besides ones made here, never made one, I'm kinda more for the strategy/action/shooting genre. Maybe I'm too young to know Myst. :D

Really intriguing! It reminds me a lot of Myst, it's fantastic.
I have not had much time to play, but what I saw I liked.
Great job.

Hi Mystery,

I downloaded and played the game again. I like your style of play. I just wish it were longer! :)

I missed one typo in the journal and found a way to lock myself in the game.

I've attached the typo below.

To lock yourself in the game, you use the map and go somewhere else instead of entering the teleporter to go home. I would suggest getting rid of the map on the last scene with the strange dude in the robe! :)

Thanks reneuend, I have removed the map now in that scene, and currently uploading the fixed file. Yeah, you never know what players do, lol.
I think I'll leave the journal as is, I think this is a minor mistake, but thank you :)
And now I'll take some time to mess around with KeyGuard a bit more :P

Very cool game Mystery. I played part one first (also cool) and really enjoyed it, but ended up using your walkthrough for cheats, lol.
I haven't made it through part 2 yet...so far I have the map, 2 keys, a hammer, a diary, a note, and I know what the symbols are for the 4 things, but I can't seem to open the puzzle door. I did open one of the houses, but can't seem to open the door to "my" house, lol.
I have a very hard time with knowing which way is which in puzzles (I can't follow maps in real life very well either).
I saved the game and will try again later.
I used the map and then I couldn't not use the map after that; some of the frames wouldn't let me out...is that how it's made? I just used the map again; no biggie, but wondered.
The graphics and music are wonderful; the whole feel of the game is just amazing. I never played Myst...looks like I'll have to try it; I've heard so many good things about it.
Oh...I really like the way you used the magic water for giving a message; too cool!
Thanks for a lot of fun!

Thanks for playing Kat :D

After finding the map, you should use it to navigate between locations.
Your inventory doesn't show up on screens with a flash file playing, but in these cases you are automatically redirected to another frame after a couple of seconds.

I'm going to PM you a big hint concerning the gates lock puzzle :)
