Room Zero (Windows / SciFi - Mystery / Rated M) Development

Postby MRM2811 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 5:30 pm

What is in room number zero ... ?

That is the question that haunts Aden...
After spending large amounts of money hiring private dectives to locate his missing grandfather, Aden recieves a mysterious letter in the mail along with a strange key. Upon reading the letter he discovers it is from his missing grandfather pleading Aden for help.

Following the directions in the letter Aden arrives at a secluded cabin in the woods, hopeful to find his only remaining relative and curious as to why he has been summoned to such a remote place.....

Aden enters the cabin.

This Scifi Mystery Thriller explores the possibilites of time, space and existence. Currently I am about a third of the way through this project and as it will probably contain very little scripting I should be finished a couple of months. Plenty of storyline, but alas no voice acting. I have uploaded acouple of pics (Some graphics still need work): The Hall of Doors, Room 1 and Room 3.

Thanks Dalton and Mercedes,

Don't congratulate me yet though.
Most of the "areas" are completed graphically, though I am still playing with textures to get the right feel for the game. I must admit although I stated scifi/mystery.. I also must add drama.

No no... Not the "Oh..I love you forever" type drama, But more the "Do I sacrafice my son to change the present" type of drama .. (No that wasn't a spoiler)..I really wanted to try and tell a ~human~ story with this project, I just hope it will be recieved with an open mind in the end.

Currently I am working on the music..Very difficult..Does anyone else here know how hard it is to find dark moody broody style music *laughs*. Anyways with anyluck I will meet my personal deadline and actually finish one of my projects.

More pics soon !

:)

*laughs*

Probably similar in style, though I believe Reneuend and I use different tools.

Here is some early work on the Cellar: Room 07. Need to flesh it with tools and machinery, But the base visual is completed.

Hi MRM2811!
The images of your new project is really impressive, I love the look of comic that you are giving and the story is very interesting.
What tools you use to give this comic look?

Hey Vairon,

Thanks for the input.
I only use one program for that effect, Paint.net... Its a free program.
Once you have opened a image into the program simply click on " Effects ",
From the drop down menu select "Artistic" and then " Ink Sketch ".
With most image I turn the " Ink Outline" right down to about 10 - 20 and turn the " Colouring " up to 100.

I still have to add white hand drawn boarders to the images just to finish the effect. I am trying to add a transition effect for between frames to resemble turning a page on a book. Hopefully I shouldn't have to many troubles.

:)

I apologise for lack of updates on this project.

On basically completing most of the sections of the game I reconsidered part of the story line and added some extra work to increase the gameplay time. I am yet to add all the conversations and down to work using ShadowHunters Keygaurd Plugin. I am little behind on my personal schedule for this project, but hopfully wont be to much past my predicted testing phase date.

Also looking at subsequent character story line points of view, so as not to be stuck just seeing the progession of events unfold through a singular character. The story events will switch from one character to another and possibly another allowing for rather complex puzzles *Gulps - Lot of work there*.

:)

The story sounds very interesting. The graphics are good. And I'm most interested in that "switch to other characters" thing. Hope you can make it all.

I know its Jan 2010,

Finally I found a new power adapter for my laptop.. (Took me away from working on this.)

Getting back to work on this, and possibly changing some of the story line, not entirely sure at the moment. Its a strange and curious when you look back over a project some time after its inception and discover some things could be done better.

Just a note.. I could never find voice actors for this project, something I was really hoping for.

Thanks Reneuend,
I actually need an "old voice" so I will keep that in mind, like I mentioned earlier, I had a issue with my laptop power cord and didn't want to pay $150 AUS for a new one. Luckily found one though a friend for 1/10 the cost.. Wooo

UPDATE:

Had a few issue with loose ends in the story line and decided to revisit some aspect of the story line again. Wish I could scan my note pad with all its scribbles and scrawls and post it here, but that would give away to much information. Unfortunately this is going to push it back a little further yet again as I have to redesign some of the rooms to reflect new parts of the story line that eventually leave no questions unanswered. To cut down on my work load I am also considering removing some aspects of the game such as multiple character points of view and having the story follow only two characters, although not intertwined, the story line shows ~certain~ things needed to help flesh out the rhyme and reason for the motivations. I know some of you have been waiting to see me finish this, so I will give a slight insight of whats to come, this game will follow family bloodlines, spanning three generations.. Not in an entirely through out the complete life span, but though a sense of memoria...

My big issue at the moment though is characters, as I don't to try and draw characters my self (I am hopeless at drawing people) I am leaning towards getting some friends of mine to help me with a few lets say "photo" shoots as I can easily convert photo to comic. With any luck I may just finish this by March...

Back with more soon and some new images of characters.
