When you get older it is just one more day in the year.

That's sadly true, but when you see people smiling, even when you're older, there's still something special about it.

I'm not trying to be preachy or anything, I'm just going to state an observation of mine (since it seems that everyone here celebrates Christmas): Christ is the only reason there is Christmas. Trying to take him out of it is like trying to take lemons out of lemon pie- it doesn't work :) . Whether you believe it or not, that's the reason we have this great holiday! That's the reason I celebrate Christmas. :D Have a merry one!

He's right, Christmas stands for Christ's Mass. So, yeah, for those who just do it for the presents, erm, do you atleast go to a church of some sort? Or just celebrate Easter for the Easter Egg Hunt, like taking apples out of apple juice!
My sig changes more often than Doctor Who (see your national BBC channel) regenarates into new melancholy actors. Oh look, Matt Smith! Gerard Butler! Colin Mochrie! That wolf from Twilight: New Moon!

But we already do that by saying "X-Mas" or "The Holiday Season". Christmas is sadly all about commercialism nowadays. I'm sure there are people out there who don't have the faintest idea who Christ is. :(

I used to think that also, but the X stands for Christ. I forget how it came to be, Im sure you can find it online, but Xmas doesnt take the Christ out of Christmas. As for Holiday, thats exactly what it means....Holy Day.

Way to go, Pennsteve!

As for the Christmas in July thing, it's probably true that Jesus wasn't born on December 25. I've heard of several reasons as to why Christmas is celebrated in the winter, the most prominent one being that they celebrated the birth of Christ during the Roman Winter Solstice. The X in Xmas probably comes from the fact that the first part of the name Christ is the Roman letter X (chi).

...What? If you mean that the Romans were the first to observe the winter solstice, then you're right. But there's no way that the Romans could have celebrated Christ's birth before the Christians did.
