Hi Folks,
Brand new to AM, but really enamored with the simplicity. Want to make my first game and need to know how to make inventory images that are clipped from a photo and do not have a frame around them. Carol Reed games are a great example of what I want. Like if you select a book from inventory it is a minaturized photo and when you move it around the screen, it does not have a frame of any kind around it. So far I have been completely frustrated in figuring this out, though I imagine I am overlooking something totally obvious.

What you need is called transparency. To create icons that use transparent background or transparent parts you need a program that does so by creating an alpha channel of your icon. Sadly there's no freeware program to do this...
