3rd person plug-in hot spot ahead and behind

Postby indy2 » Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:47 am

hello ! scuse for my bad english ( i am italian )

my question is :

i want to create a 3rd person adventure. i have seen your example in AMpack , but i don't understand how to create a "path" for the character.

i have seen that the character ( when is walking to an spot ) is behind alls the spots and is ahead all the objects of the background . ok , ok

but...

how i can walk around a table or an armchair ?

( Adventure game studio has "walkable area " and " not walkable area " : if char is walking in "not walkable area " it is in part or all invisible )

thanks !

says the help :

"The last thing you need to do is to set it so that the character will walk when the player clicks on the pathway. "

ok , i understand . But , for my game i need that the pathway is not a rect line , but curve ( for obstacle on the path , rocks, hole etc)

is possibile this ?

If you have a curved line, use many small hotspots.

i.e.

--[_____]
--[_____]
-[_____]

Hi Indy2,
cpkspikyhair is correct that you can add a series of walk-enabled hotspots to pass by an item on a curve. However, you must type in the size of the combined walkable area on the last tab of the Frame Properties window (there is only room there for a single rectangular area). When the character sprite is on one walkable hotspot and you click on another walkable hot spot, the character will walk a straight line to the clicked spot. Unless you have your hotspots positioned so that the table is not in any possible cross path, the sprite might well walk right across your table.

If you need to have him walk behind your table, you'll be using a "floating" GIF of the table in the frame. Be sure that your character cannot walk too close to the table from the lower part of your frame, or his head will go behind the table.

Good luck with your project.

Hi indy2,
Do you know that Rosario (riobros76) has set up an Italian site for AM?
It's here --- http://www.mediacompoint.it/amitaly/help.htm

Hope this helps.
