Project Magritte

Postby Bzyk » Mon Feb 26, 2007 5:41 pm

Hello, Friends,

let me introduce myself and my work. I am Polish journalist working for big game developer City Interactive and as a marketing director for game publisher OniMedia. I am member of PTBG - Game Research Association of Poland. A couple months ago I presented Adventure Maker on 2nd International Conference "Culture-Generative Function of Games - Game in the Education, Media and Society" (Poznan, Poland, November 2006 - http://gry2.konferencja.org/page.php?id=1431). I am studying "E-communication and digital media". For my diploma I decided to create an adventure game with AM, which IMHO is really fantastic engine.

My game (working title "Magritte") is a surrealistic thriller. The action of this story happens in really magical old Polish city - Wroclaw. Our hero appears there, but in the other reality, where lots of strange things happen, where live fantastic creations of surrealistic painter Rene Magritte. We must find a mysterious Saver, give him special artefacts, rescue the other person from one of Magritte's painting and return to our reality.

This game has two goals. One is a typical adventure fun. :) But the second one is special - because this game will teach - give player information about painting of one of the world greatest surrealistic painters. I want to convince my professors of educational power of adventure games.

For now I have a couple of first locations. My band called TRH (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dqJshxW5MY) is preparing sounds and music in horror climate. In game you will find many weird characters from paintings, personal diary of our protagoniste, alternative ending, and, I hope so, many more. :)

So please, keep you fingers crossed! :) I must finish my project this June. I will be informing you about work progress.

Best regards,
Martin M. Drews aka Bzyk

PS. Here they are two locations. One with one of Magritte's character called Son of the Man (source - Magritte's painting: http://www.latifm.com/artists/image/magritte-rene-the-son-of-man.jpg). Second with the icon of diary.

I come from Poland. :)

Check one of our songs, which I used in my game: www.drews.go.pl/abyss.mp3

I hope you like it. :)

"Magritte" is ready, but unfortunately, it is in Polish language only. This project was created for my university diploma. Now I want to make a bigger game in Polish and English. So I'm looking for collaborators.

Hi Bzyk,
Is your Magritte game available on the internet? I don't speak a work of Polish, but I'd still like to try your game. I can't really speak Italian, but I've tried to play Ribros's games and have enjoyed them.... at least as far as I was able to go.

Congratulations on finishing your game, and on earning your degree!

Hi Bzyk,
Though I was totally unable to read the text in Polish, I none-the-less still very much enjoyed clicking around through your game. The graphics were very creative, and I liked your custom cursors. Magritte definitely has a very nice look to it. I thought the whiskey glass was very clever.

Congratulations and thanks very much for making it available.

Imari, Alletsator - thanks, Friends, for warm welcome of my game!

I want to translate it into English, but for now I have no time. I wrote a book about sushi and directed a movie with sushi master showing the secrets of Japanese cuisine. Now I'm doing a postproduction. When I'll finish it, I will do English translation of "Magritte".

Good luck with your book and movie project in the meantime! :)
