New PC Gaming?

Postby chickens1127 » Sun Mar 30, 2008 12:14 am

I was making a stupid Pokemon spoof. I was thinking why I don't have a darned Wii two years later. Then, something hit me...

Why don't create a rival technology for the PC...
( You're probably laughing hard at this time!)

So, I played around with computer mouses. They feel unreal and don't really pick up movement.

Then, I got the plan...

Why don't make a similar remote to Wii, but instead of having a motion sensor bar, have a small laser built into the remote that you could point at the screen directly. Then have your game control buttons on it and when you hit it it creates a electrical charge that goes to the console which then clicks on the mouse and runs into the computer.

I have created a sort of prototype and the mechanics work but I have one huge prolbem...

What could I build that would detect where the laser is pointing on the screen?

I have a few ideas, but I would new hundrads of dollars to test them...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks! :)

#1 - The "sensor bar" on top of the TV is NOT the sensor - the camera is in the remote. The "sensor bar" is actually infrared lights that the remote-camera sees.

#2 - If you search online, quite a few innovative people have come up with ways to use the wii controllers on their PCs. - here's an example.

Good luck!

Interesting! Actually it is a pretty nice idea to use the mouse (exclusively, without the keyboard) as the real equivalent to the Wii control, I never thought about that!

Is there any game out there where you control the game only by moving the mouse? (no clicks, no keyboard, etc.)

For example, a bowling game where you send the ball by moving the mouse upwards very fast?

Or a sword combat game where you control the sword by moving the mouse very quickly in all the directions?

I'm not sure it is possible to capture the mouse with Flash (i.e. prevent it from getting out of the window - which is needed if we want to be able to quickly move the mouse in all the directions).

With DirectX it is very easy to capture the mouse, so maybe there is a DirectX-based game that has this type of controls. I haven't played many games recently, so I cannot tell.

Since chickens1127's post, I am starting to be curious to know if such game exists...! :)

There is a bowling game in 3d with such a feature, but I can't remember where I 've played it right now... I think it was Microsoft's

Anyway, even using flash, if we combine it with AM and KG plugin, we can trap the mouse without any DirectX handling. But I would like to see the other method too...
