A set of inventory item graphics for newbies to borrow..

Postby Bort » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:45 am

thought these would be perhaps helpfull and fun for newbies to experiment with....
i've made a set of 12 inventory items..
included is a large 800x600 jpg of each item in close up .(see attached examples) for inventory item viewing scripts..use item on magnifying glass or similar go to new screen etc

also included is a transparent background gif image of each item for use as hotspot images...allowing you to place the item in a drawer..on a desk etc- simply by placing a hotspot with the items gif image and setting it to give the player the item n click...
and i have included a transparent ICON (ICO) image for use as the items inventory bar image

hope this helps give folks a fun way to get the ball rolling :D
i had fun making them any way!

:D cheers!...making a set of items (before i need them) which might fit the game, helps to keep the process flowing and saves confusion... i can then use them straight away (click click bang they're in the game) instead of having to stop and spend an hour making a new item every time...with all the resultant mither and distraction involved..

thought whilst i was there no harm letting other folks use them as well...for exactly the same reasons!!

top tip for newbies--(and me)

the transparent gif versions are VERY handy...for two reasons

one- you don't have to build the item into the main 3d scenery and background (you place and resize the hotspot and image to stretch/compress the image to suit most perspectives)

Two you can remove the item after picking it up by simply disabling the hotspot...

so you can have a completely EMPTY desk drawer as the model for a scene and place any item you want into the drawer via the transparent gifs....which of course also means you can re-use that open drawer graphic again and again...
lovely jubbly...saves a lot of fiddly duplicated work
even if i do say so myself!

PS:

i've knocked up a quick web page...to store my AM stuff on

you can see some of the transparent gif versions of the items displayed on the page...they will look perfectly acceptable when placed on desks in drawers anywhere really...works a treat...

yes i don't see why not! :D
everything is above board and ship shape..
i made the model files with a licensed modeling program
the textures are royalty free
AFAIK that covers everything more or less..
(but i'm no expert on legal-ese stuff)
mind you these days you can just never tell...
they are merely jpg/gif/icon images
not the actual 3d model files ..argh who knows

It's hard when you can't use inventory items in psp games...but I managed. just with a lot more frames lol

EDIT:
Can you make a few more of those (compass, knife, gold/silver/bronze bar, etc.)? I'm thinking of making an adventure game after i'm done with my PSP game.

this isn't dial a pizza you know :D
you see the problem with doing requests is that you spend well over an hour making each of the things only to find out...
"oh no...i didn't mean that sort of compass..or couldn't you make it a different colour...etc etc"
and that gets depressing extremely rapidly i can tell you!!!

no worries..but to contradict myself (i get bored somtimes) here you go 1 hour 15 minutes worth of compass...
reason i fancied this was i found a texture of a compass face that showed the nautical signal flags for each direction..which i could use for the face...which is just screaming PUZZLE at the top of it's voice...innit like

:D ok..it occurs to me that there's a puzzle within a puzzle there...
you find the non puzzle compass somewhere...
later on you find a very small key...or at some point you notice there is a tiny button on the back of the compass..which when clicked....reveals the flags on the compass face allowing you to use the flags to solve some puzzle...lol
bit fiendish

just drag your jpg image onto it
(set the options to black for transparent colour and 64x64 for ico size)
and blam instant high quality ico appears....could not be easier and more satisfying..absoloutely indespensible

Just tested it, downloaded, and everything is fine for me - all the objects are in there.
The problem must be at your end - try re-downloading again.

Maybe that's what Im doing wrong...i had tried it both times to C directory..and have attempted to open it from Windows Explorer..unzipping it...and it's where I get error message..

Thanks very much..~!

I have saved the .zip file and then unzipped it.
It wouldn't help you to know where exactly I have saved it since you certainly don't have that folder - it's a folder that I've created on my pc drive. But it doesn't really matter where exactly you save it.

As far as I remember, you have had already similar problems with "corrupted files" due to a failed download process. So I suspect that your internet connection is the cuprit.
