A question[SOLVED]

Postby marina » Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:49 pm

Hi everybody!
I'm from Rome and this is my first post; I hope to have posted in the right place.
My question is simple, but not very easy for me to explain... I used the search tool to see if there was already an answer but I wasn't able to find anything.

I'm trying to realize a project with AM free edition and I'm up to become familiar with this fantastic software, so I import my images quite in a hurry (I work hard for a-living and I have little time left for myself). When I'm satisfied with the developing of the game I look a second time at the content of the frames and I see that I'd like to better them with an utter passage through Photoshop.
The problem is that AM doesn't recognise any saved change and if I want to use the edited images I have to change their name, delete the previous and reimport them as new frames with all that follows: hotspots, text, and so on.

Is there a chance to avoid it ? Is there a procedure to follow to let AM know that the picture inside the frame has been changed?

Excuse me if I was not clear enough or if my question is stupid and thanks a lot for your attention!

Welcome to the forums!

You must "reload" the pictures.
Click the frame properties, and here the background button.
If you see your overworked picture here, just doubleclick on it.
If not, click import file and search for the overworked picture.
if it has the same name like the old picture, AM asks if you want to replace it,click yes and the picture should load to the frame!

Good luck with your game!

Welcome!

That's one known issue...
I think that there is a refresh feature...

Thanks a LOT!
I will try all you suggest and will let you know! I had seen the refresh feature and thought it could have something to do with my problem, but it didn't work out... maybe I didn't use it properly.
I'll give it a better try.

Thanks again, have a nice evening!
Marina

p.s. I do need good luck with my game :-)

Yes, exactly! I just made it!
I clicked the background button in frame properties, and I imported back the overworked picture that replaced correctly the former.
I tried also the refresh option but again it didn't work.

Thanks for your help and for your friendly welcome Juhuwoorps and Lyberodoggy! I hope to become skilled fast with AM and to be helpful myself in the future.

Welcome to the Forums Marina..:)

Actually if u want to import a picture the same one as u did..but its "edited"

You have to delete the previous one from the Manage Resourses link on the side...So remove the picture>..Manage resourses>>>..and right click the picture >>and delete...Then import the one u edited..:D

Peace

Thanks for the welcome and for the tip Mercedes!

What you suggest is what I have been doing till now, but when you delete the frame and import the overworked one as if it were new, it takes a lot of time to put back all the choosen settings and properties... expecially for me, being new to AM, often forgot what I had done exactly
(I'm writing down notes over notes but not always have enough time.)

The procedure suggested by juhuwoorps works perfectly and allows you to edit a picture without having to set all the properties back. Try it!
You only have to pay attention in the case you let AM resize the images: reloading and replacing the frame will mantain the same size as your original, so you have to resize it yourself before importing it.

Have a nice day!

Oh..i see what he's saying now...he's reloading the whole frame..but as a picture..so no having to redo hotspots..i see..usually though, it imports the exact one...not the edited one that way though..Unless u rename it..

I've never had luck with that..I've had to rename it..cause its still in manage resourses as it's original..Unless i'm not getting it..:? what he's saying..

Edit..never mind.i get it now..its no longer a frame..but a picture..like a hotspot..only remove the hotspot around it..I guess if thats not what he means..this also is one way....lol..:P

I'm glad my question was useful to you as well Mercedes! I tried to write a step-by-step minitutorial on juhuwoorps'suggestion, just if it could be useful for someone else. I've had a big problem with this issue. I only hope I managed to explain it in proper English, or almost... here it is.

After having modified and overwritten (saved with the same name) the image destined to a specific frame open the ?Frame Editor? and double click on the frame containing the image you want to update.
In the window in the left click on the option ?Frame properties? and on the window that will open click on the grey tab showing the name of the frame in the middle option: ?Frame Background?. This action will open a new window called ?Resources Management?, in which your choosen frame will be highlighted. Click on ?Import Frame?, top left, select the edited frame and double click to open it. A window ?File already listed? will pop up asking if you want to replace the file. Say yes and then ok and you?ll have the overworked picture replacing the old one but keeping all the hotspots and properties already set.

I will spare so much time in this way! I'm never fully satisfied with what I do and before asking in the forums I was just wondering if I'd spend all my time reimporting pictures with new names and redoing hotspots and so on...
Thanks everybody!
