Sketchup tuts for ZW's drawing tuts

Postby Eccentrica » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:38 pm

First of all hi i'm rob and only a day old to the forums. I'm an avid sketchup user I use it for most if not all of my designs (posted some in the artwork section if you want a look).
While i was having a look around I noticed that quite few of our fellow adventure makers have dabbled or use sketchup and have had some disgreements with it in one way or another so i suggested i another part of the forum if you guys would like some tutorials for sketchup for what you actually want to design. So mercedes and Lyberdoggy suggested that i use ZW's drawing tuts and put them in the context of sketchup which is what this thread is going to be all about.

As not dissapoint this is the first part of the tut the equivilant of ZW's part A the rest should be up within a day or two. In the mean time just thought i say hi and rear my head to the forum.

Any questions or if you guys need some background artwork msg

P.S the tut is not directly attached as i maxed out my file size limit uploading my artwork. Just hit the big download button when the page loads

Ok, I was following the tutorial......all was working. I closed sketchup and re-opened it a little while later. Here is what I was talking about before. Sketchup is now doing my stuff transparent. Why is it doing this?

I cant get a photo to post here so here is a link. I took a screenshot so you know what I am talking about.

I like to draw, but it would be nice to do some 3d stuff.

I have to ask, how does this compare with Bryce?

pennsteve what has happened youve gone into wireframe mode if you go to view > face style > shaded or shaded with texture you should see your surfaces. also make sure you do not have the x ray view selected either.

renuend: i cant say i'v had that much contact with bryce but looking at it and the few times i've used it if, all you really want to do is design rooms and backdrops for adventure maker then sketchup is great sketchup has a plugin for it these days that lets you create organic shapes as well.

If you want to see what sketchup can really do take a look at this guy his name is silver shadow all this was done entirley inside sketchup besides the renders of course (he could have used podium but hey!)

Eccentrica: Wow. Silver Shadow's image was very impressive. I wonder how long it took to do that drawing. Oh, I liked his avatar too! :)

Podium? I guess I need to do my research.

Thanks.

Thanks! :)

Btw, can it also be used with the free version of Google Sketchup or only with the full version?
EDIT: Should have read more carefully, it works also with the free version it says

But Podium is not free, however there is an evaluation version with limitations.
