7th Edition Planning

Postby chickens1127 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 12:30 am

Ladies and gentlemen, the seventh edition is rolling around. This time around, Bite By Byte will be a little different:

-This time, we will go more monthly, extending release date to 25th-27th. Articles should be in no later then the 25th.

-Editor's First Page will be scrapped. Instead, it will be replaced with an interview with a selected member.

-Now on, if you're an artist, you can submit a cover. This cover will only be used for one issue. If I do not recieve any, I will use the 2009 cover as seen in last issue. Follow these guidlines:

- Width: 8.4 in
- Length 10.85 in
- Please include "Bite By Byte", if you would like to know I believe Book Antiqua is the font for the 2008 cover. Also please add the Adventure Maker logo with the two wheels.
- Please submit this by the 23rd if you are intested by uploading it to a hosting site and PMing me the link.

To be fair, the cover should be somehow related to an article in the magazine, don't you think?

Huh. I guess I had better do something worth mentioning, so that I can get an interview some day... :D

Zenoc2 and I are working on the next "Writers Block" article.
So that will be available very soon.

Zenoc2 has offered to proof read and edit..Woo. No more embarrising mistakes.

This one will be character development.
Just PM me three things, a location, a time period and a item.

I will send you back a story line.

"Embarrassing", you mean. :)

I will also be continuing my series on how to write a best selling backstory for an adventure game. MRM and I are still working together though, and so this one will also be on character development, but in relation to a game rather than a book, so you won't have to read the same article twice.

Hey, I may even submit a cover if I have time. Either way, expect good stuff from MRM and me.

I 'll try to actually write something this time.

I was preparing a basic java tutorial too, but I think that since java has currently nothing to do with AM it shouldn't be there so...

But AM is already somewhat object orientated. Example:

TextBoxObject(1).Text="" refers to an object and to its method called text.
You can't of course use java or c++ classes directly in AM but you can create an OCX and use that instead. Still I don't have a language to create OCXs as VB.Net creates dlls. When dlls are supported, I promise to base a tutorial on them

Well you could just do a tutorial on java, nothing to do with AM. I would love to learn more about Java.

I loved Java back when I used it(1996 - version 2 I think). My company had other plans, so I haven't touched it since 2003. :(

It would be cool to build an adventure game from it though.

Yes, could offer compatibility... But it would be difficult to manipulate graphics. Java is more of a console-based language for me, C++ is for graphics.

Jscript could be added as an option for AM tho... for Web-based games
