Once Bitten Twice Shy

Image
It starts out as a normal day. You are snoozing at your office desk.

Image
listening to the radio (yes, there is some actual 1940's commercials!).

When you get a phone call from your girlfriend and she wants you to take her out to eat. Ony one problem...you have no money.

Image
But as luck would have it. you find some in an alley.

Image
So, you take your girlfriend out to eat at the local cafe, where she tells you about a bank robbery that just occurred. You pay with your new found money and go back to your office. BUT...

Image
You're arrested for using stolen money.

Image
Now you have to break out of jail to clear your name.

----------------------------------------------------
Now Available!

Image
Now you carry a gun and I keep track of the ammo expended...don't run out!

Image
and you get to practice your gun in a new alley. I added gun recoil and if you find it, a box of cartridges for reloading.

Image
Someone asked about having possessions in jail. now you don't. and you have to retreive your items after breaking out....from a safe.

Download the game and leave feedback or view my website at:

I have problems to play the game. If I go out of the first room and click somewhere in the follwing frame, the games hang up and I have to close it using the taskmanager. Also I'm unable to pick up the coin at the watercooler as written in the walkthrough.

I'm using vista.

Hmmmm...I use XP and didn't run into any issues. :(
The only thing extra in the game was the use of the keyguard plugin. I'll have someone here test it on Vista and work with them. Hopefully, I can get it resolved. Does anyone know of issues with Keyguard and Vista? The rest of the game is just pure AM and vb scripting.

Do you have access to XP, juhuwoorps? I'd be curious to see if you ran into the same issues.

I'll check the download and make sure the files aren't corrupted.

I don't have problems with keyguard and Vista.
Do the game using any other software? When I start the game, I get a symbol in my taskbar (ffdshow audio decoder).
Edit: it seems that this decoder comes with AM to play.I have it also in other games which are using sound. I didn't realized this before :)

I'm using wav, mp3 files and one midi file for the theme music. Are there different varieties of these?

I'll work on it later today and get back with you. This might be a learning experience for me as far as knowing what to include in the executable package. If I'm using a unique kind of sound file, I'll definitely avoid it in the future.

I appreciate your trying it out though! Thanks!

That's both good and bad!

I don't know how anyone is suppose to keep up with all the codecs, which appears to be the issue. That's an area I guess I should learn more about.

Glad you got it working...I hope you enjoy the game.

It doesn't have to do with the codecs. I have deinstalled the codecs on the PC where the game doesn't work but it also hangs up on this PC.

reneuend it would be good to include the codecs in the installation as I 've mentioned before. I have 'em, but many users don't

I'm playing on Vista currently and have no problems so far :)
But indeed I have some codecs on this laptop.
EDIT: Oh, just had an error message at the butcher's. And then suddenly I had items from the prison where I haven't been yet in this game
On the next try, I had an error message about bakerrespond_4 missing - had to exit the game.

Ummm, how can I see the walkthrough?
EDIT: Thanks for the PM Doggy :)

Just checking here... juhu, are you, by chance, running a 64-bit version on the machine you were having trouble with? I used to have a 64-bit Vista laptop, and it hated AM.

Hey all..the walkthru is in a text file and shows up after the installation.

Mystery. How are you getting these errors? I went over it several times and didn't get any.... :? Oh well, I didn't have time to get beta testers for this one. I'll look at the areas you are talking about and see what's up.

I'll post the walkthru in the walkthru thread and put a link on the first post of this thread.

Hey Lyberodoogy where do you get the codecs to include with the installation? I'll search the forum for some answers.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Great game, great idea, and I must say, freelance PI games are the best. Sam and Max and A Case of the Crabs proved that. But the second game, is there anything to sum up about it?

Okay, err, I solved the wire puzzles (and died for fun) but am I supposed to click on the doors? I didn't get back to the office, so I hope it wasn't supposed to be immediate.

Puzzles: 1
Ways To Die: 2
Suspects: 2

Hi Jaked,

No. Once you get the correct wiring sequence, it will automatically go to the next screen.

I hope you saved the game! :)

Yep. I like how there are 3 suspects (Mabel, Butcher Guy, and Pizza Pie Person?) And ways to die. Also, A. Will there be a Shayne McCoy 2 and when, if not a basic plot shard, like crime, or victim, or a suspect.

Yes, I'm working one 2 of them at the same time now! I'm also improving this one.

Coming soon:
-Shayne McCoy in "Friends in Low Places"
-Shayne McCoy in "Its Lonely at the Bottom"

I might be doing a third one from the writing contest. I named it "Holiday Twist", but I'll be changing the name.

WOW! The 3 others sound awesome, but I was hoping for one when he's on a train heading for a vacation, but a counterfieter is on board so he has to solve the crime. Like Shane McCoy in "No Vacation For You, Shane"

Actually, I like the idea of him "trying" to take a vacation, but something keeps interrupting it. Let me think on it.

Updated Game Available

Postby reneuend » Thu Feb 05, 2009 7:59 am

I've added several new things and fixed others.

- radio features
- gun
- ammo
- call on the phone in the office
- new screens to make the story smoother
- a safe you have to crack
- new alley to practice your gun

This is not the last version. I plan on making the gun scene in the end a lot more interesting.

Download version 1.2:

UPDATE!

Sorry, I noticed that you can't pick up the coin in the update I posted last night. I fixed this error and checked the rest of the game. I updated the link in the original posting of this thread.

Here is the latest!
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hzzjjitzomm/Shayne+-+Once+Bitten+Twice+Shy+v1-2a.zip

And the updated walkthru:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ymunn0gc4mh/shayne+-+once+bitten+twice+shy+-+walkthru.txt

Again! I'm sorry for missing this. I guess I must have accidentally moved the hotspot, which isn't a good idea if you are using keyguard! :?
