flashlight plugin and lighting affects

Just downloaded the flahlight plugin and it's really good. I'll be using it for sure...But

It strikes me it would be very useful to be able to mask frames with a variety of affects without the moving torchlight. No doubt the plugin can be modified to do this but it's a bit beyond me, unless I'm missing something obvious. Any chance ?

You might take a look at ShadowHunter's Particle Plus demo and see if it will do some of the things that you'd like to try.
