Ver 3.1 is now ready.
Updates since last version:
Feature Added: you can use a backspace command by inserting +bcksp+ just like the newline command in the previous updates (L)
Feature Enchanced: you are able to determine a certain range of randomization of the original speed value (modified Shaky Typing effect) (L)

3.2 Updates:
Feature Added: Clear the text using +clear+
Feature Added: Clear the text using backspace with this command +clrbs+

Typing Effect Plugin Version 3.3 Updates:
-Added Feature: use +del+ to delete letters from the start (L)
-Added Feature: use +clrdel+ to delete all letters left to right (L)
-Added Feature: use +delsp+ to delete letters from the start leaving a space (L)
-Added Feature: use +clrdelsp+ to delete all letters left to right leaving a space (L)

The plugin is in the attachment bellow. Works with projects that use version 3.0 but you 'll need to check on the settings, because of the new ones added messing up with them

Hello lyberodoggie,

I don't fully understand how to use the plugin...

What do i fill in "enter index of text"? (what does it mean??)
(I got an control array element error)

And do I also have to put some code in the VBS procedures?

I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it sounds like you need to create a text object. Like text(1), where 1 is the index.

I have a little time...I'll download it now and try it out. Hopefully, you'll be around for the next 1/2 hour.

Ok. Here is what you have to do.

Right-click on the frame and enter any text.
Go through the prompts
Now highlight the textbox and it will show you the index value. The first one will be "1"
Now go to the plugin properties and set up what you want it to do, including the text you want to actually display. The text that you first put in will be cleared if you check the box for it.
I got an error about some transition, but I quickly went through it, so maybe I didn't fully set it up.

btw, congrats on your first scripting....There's no stopping you now!!! :D

One more thing. If you go to "project properties" and double-click on the typing effect plugin name, it will display a description. There isn't an example or tutorial, but it will show you the available options.

This plugin is very well done!
Koodoos to LDoggy and his helpers!
This deserves some attention. I'll write up a tutorial on it.

Thanks for trying out my plugin :)
A big part of it was programmed by a fine programmer called "Chromegloss" :P

He had even created a sample project, but unfortunately it wasn't ever updated to support newer versions and it got flushed along with everything else in the plugins corner when the forum was accidentally pruned

Reneuend, I never got the error about the transition. Maybe you entered an incorrect value in the transition type field.

Feel free to ask any questions

I'm randomly getting this error, and for randomly different event indexes. I'm using the plugin across 5 frames and it failed the first time on the 3rd frame. Do I need to clear out the global variables?

Thanks reneuend for clearing this up for me. I would never have figured out you first have to enter a text field on the frame.

Till so far I don't get any errors and I love the way it look, thanks lyberodoggie.

First I wanted to begin the game with text that scrolls on your screen (similar as in Devil's Sea - Vairon). I saw it somewhere explained in the forums i guess, but can't find it back.

anyway I think I will use this instead :D

ps. I also tried adding sound, it works but it sounded not so great...think you need a very short sound?

Are u trying to add a typing sound, that goes off with each letter...as it types across the page...?

I think it was Imari, that spoke of doing that with credits..but it was done with Particle Plugin..:)

Edit** Found these ~ I remembered them as well...Let me know if any of these threads is the thread u are thinking of~

http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=23000&highlight=#23000

Then Ribros76 did a tutorial on it as well..a while back~
http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=8661&highlight=#8661

And then Candle mentions you can use the Transition slide down too...:)

http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1377&highlight=credits

Hope these help..:D

Adieux~

Basically you need a very short sound (as sort as the time distance between each typing is or even shorter). We should have developed this more... :(

If you wish an effect similar to Devil's Sea, you can write the text to a set of frames and then use the move up transition to go to the next frame with the rest of the text. I think there was a tutorial by candle about that...

You're too kind.

I'll create another sample project and tutorial. But only after we address all the problems.

If you guys could continue telling us what issues are coming up and we'll see if we can fix them.

Also, if there's any features you want added, let us know.

Finally, big round of applause to Doggy, you've really worked wonders with this plugin, it has become amazing. I'm looking through the code at the moment and I'm impressed with all the changes you've made. :)

So, does that mean someone is looking at the issue I found? :?:

I have a really cool idea on how I'd like to try and use this plugin, but I can't until this issue is fixed. :?

@ Mercedes.. it was indeed the one about the particle plugin where Imari wrote about.
Now when I see something and think it might be usefull some day I copy / paste it into a document and save it. It is very handy, especially IF you can find it back

The other tutorials seemed helpful as well, the one Candle wrote about I actually thought about something like that.
I will absolutely use one of them.

(Edit: used the one from Candle...that was a fast and simple solution...and it works great!)

And yes Mercedes, I wanted a typing sound, but the sound I used was to long for the typing speed I wanted, but it is no big deal. Who uses a typewriter anyway?? I was just curious to see what I could do with the plugin.

@ Chromegloss..the plugin works fine for me as far as I can see. The only thing I don't like about it, is the small field for the text, but I suppose you can't change that sort of things

@reneuend Can't wait to hear your cool idea!

Hi Lazy,

I'm holding my idea hostage until this issue is fixed!

Meanwhile, I'll just build around it and get as much ready as I can.

---
As for the particle + plugin, people need to post their templates they use with particle +, so the rest of us can use them.

I'll look at your issue, what exactly is going wrong? Is it only messing up on the third frame?

You should try resetting the plugin tab in that frame/hotspot.

By the way, I tried to fix that problem with the sound and I managed to add a feature to set the number of MediaPlayerObjects to use, so you can use one every x letters typed for the sound to play properly, but it's not quite working as I would like it to.

I 'm posting the new version here for anybody to test it and/or fix it

I wish that were the case, but it is quite random. I have 5 frames. The test I'm running goes to the next frame automatically after running the plugin. Unfortunately, it has only made it to the 3rd frame.

On the frame that is causing the problem going to the next one (probably the third frame), take a screenshot of the rest of your settings except for the message to be displayed (if you don't wanna reveal the surprise) and post it for us to figure it out

I am pleased to announce I am now working on the fourth version of this plugin.

I absolutely love what Lyberodoggy has done with this plugin, so I thought I'd expand on it.

Most of the features from the previous (excellent) version by Doggy make a return, along with some interesting new features that will give you complete control over how the text is typed and where it is typed.

The new features will include:

- A new and improved usage guide.
- Now works with merged textboxes.
- Now works with textboxobjects.
- Text can now change color while typing - using a new custom command.
- Text can now be spread across mutiple textboxes or textboxobjects using a new custom command.
- Simplified interface.
- The text is autotrimmed, to compensate, a delay is now allowed before the typing begins.
- I've added more coding comments so you can edit it more easily to suit your specific needs.

There might be more, but you'll have to wait and see! :)

I removed one feature, the ability to go to frames. I think Lyberodoggy's scripting feature more than compensates for this.

Expect me to release this as soon as I have all the bugs fixed. This one required quite a lot of new code, so it might take a little while. I'm also working on a sample project.

Sorry to double post, but, if you're wondering how this will work. Here is a quote from the user guide I typed up:

10) [NEW] To spread to text across more than one textbox.

This uses a custom command. To move the text to a new textbox, you type a custom command at the point at which you want the text to move...

The command is +MNTT_[Index of TextBox]_[TimeInterval]_[ClearText]+

Once this is detected, the script automatically starts typing from the Text Box specified in the command, after the time interval specified.

It then checks to see if you want to clear the textbox before proceeding. Type "1" if you wish to clear and "0" if you wish for it to remain.

For example, if you're typing in textbox #1 and want to move to textbox #2 after 500 milliseconds, without clearing the textbox...

Type: +MNTT_2_500_0+

If you want to move to a textboxobject. Type "T" before the index.

So, to move to textboxobject #4 for example, use:

+MNTT_T4_500_0+

To move to a merged textbox. Type "N" and then the relevant index.

For example "N1" will be the first merged textbox, "N2" the second etc.

+MNTT_N2_500_0+

It may seem complicated at first, but you'll quickly get used to it.

NOTE: You MUST add BOTH "+", that is how the code is recognised and it is required for the script.
