Uploading games to website. Arcade style.

Postby PenMasterRule » Thu Dec 17, 2009 3:04 am

I wasn't exactly sure how to phrase the title to my question.

Anyways I wanted to get started on a game soon and I was wondering if it was possible to upload a finished game to a website so people can just play it without downloading the game itself.

Thanks!

If you create a game for iPhone/iPod Touch or with the HTML feature (both have limitations, check the last column in the table here), then yes.

If you create a game for Windows, then not.
We have tried tools in the past that would allow to play .exe games online, but we didn't get good results.
(Unless somebody has found a reliable tool since then)

Ah I see. Well that's alright. Just an idea of mine. Thanks for letting me know!

You could try this: http://www.adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4987

But it's not fully supported yet.

I just want to know how they made a online demo for the game you find in this thread:
http://adventuremaker.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5316

It seems they have found a way to make a flash file from the AM game.

Hmm, either that, or they have made the demo in Flash.
I'm curious to know, too :)

I don't know much about flash, but perhaps it is possible to make a html game and convert it to flash? The demo looks like a html game.

It would be nice to do something like that. I wanted to make a simple, but fun game people could just play directly from my site without downloading anything. Ah well. Maybe I can make a trailer for my game that would seem fun enough for people to download it.

That's a good alternative. Actually, its something I thought of doing myself, but it's taking me a long time to build it. Trailers are fun to watch and help convince people to download and try out the game!

If you decide on a trailer, let us know when it's done so we can go check it out! :)

Yeah you bet.

I'm actually a writer so I know it's difficult to do something like that. Like I've had to write previews for the back of my books before. You know explaining what the stories about and those can be difficult. You have to write enough so people get a general idea about what your novels about, but also leave a lot out so you don't give away your story.

I have a good idea about a trailer. So I'll let everyone know once I'm finished.

Thanks!

Another way to do a trailer is to maybe introduce the story...Show something that might happen before the story begins and then leave a cliff hanger...make the audience wonder what happens next. Of course, the only way to find out is to play the game.

Hi!

I saw in a blog a game that you can download or play it on line!

link: http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/puzz ... maze/1298/

In "quick play game" option, game pops up in a new window.

How do I upload a game with this option?

Thank you for the Welcome and for so fast reply.
This is a very useful forum. Congratulations!
Doubt solved!
I'm starting a project in AM and I'll probably be here often, asking a lot!
Prepare yourself!
I'm not using the AM yet. I'm doing all scenes in 3DMAX for now.
Bye! and thanks again!

Great news :D

Good luck for finishing your artwork!

Asking questions is what the forums is for, so don't hesitate to ask for support if you get stuck :)

Apart from that, there are other great sources as well to help you out:
