Panorama Error

Postby Tommy Gun » Thu Feb 04, 2010 4:58 am

Hello again everyone! I was wondering he someone might be able to help me solve a problem I am having with the 360 degree panorama feature. In short, I never had any problems with this plugin on my old computer but now that I have a newer one, I cannot use this plugin at all; even when I try to play the 360 demo that comes with AM. The part that has me stumped is that both old and new computers both run on vista. The error I get is "The scripting engine returned the following error message: automation error. Please click ok to continue or cancel to stop the application.". Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks for the replies and sorry, I should have been more clear. I an still using vista for now (long story but the new computer I bought is already in the shop for repairs so I am arguing with the store and hence, stuck with what I have for the near future. I am also posting via my phone so sorry about the poor formatting of my comments). Anyways, the problem-as far as I can tell right now- is limited solely to the 360 panorama feature. For example, the 360 demo works fine until it reaches the first panorama frame, which is where the error pops up without fail; and yes, this error does occur when I actually run the panorama demo, as well as when I use the "test frame" feature. Likewise, this error is also thrown when i install the demo from the generated .exe file and at the first panorama frame. All of the other demos work perfectly and after searching the forums here, I have followed the seemingly common advice of reinstalling the program a few times (I am using the 4.5.2 version, the full for non commercial version to be exact). I have made no changes to the panorama demo and the error pops up when I try to make my own version as well. If it helps, I have also noticed that regardless of whether I click on "OK" or "cancel", the panorama frame does show but as a static image and I am unable to do any sort of scrolling or whatnot. The only other thing I can think of is that I did download and install the new 4.6.0 build 1 version to see what it is like but then uninstalled it and went back to the 4.5.2 again. Is it possible that doing this has created a conflict of some sort (perhaps some sort of confusion within the registry)? Again, thanks for your time.

Hm..This happened to me too..when I first downloaded AM..I couldn't play that plugin..However I was able to download it again..-re-install and it worked..It was one or the other..I either registered it, or i re-installed AM..can't remember..

Have you tried to register the ocx file using the run command-?

If i'm not mistaken..You would be able to view all files in PART 1..When you open up your project..go to the link that says "Create and Modify Plugins"..under the OCX tab..

Try and put it in your Systems Folder?...not system32..I think it's different for Vista..I could be wrong..it may do that automatically~

Please forgive my ignorance but my IT knowledge, which really isn't very vast to say the least, lies mostly in graphics and the like. I did read in other posts about the manual registering but I'm not really sure if I understand what to do completely. I did take a peek via regedit and was able to find the AMPanoramaPlugin_ID7.ocx entry and take that to be a good sign, correct? As for the file location, I'm not really sure what you mean, sorry. I can say that I am using a relatively fresh copy of the AM installer...which I downloaded no more than 2 weeks ago.

Hi there..:)

Go to RUN..then in the command prompt type in;

Code: Select all
regsvr32 \windows\system32\AMPanoramaPlugin_ID7.ocx

Then this one;

Code: Select all
regsvr32 \windows\system32\AAVideoLoaderProj.ocx

You can copy and paste that...

Also, do u have Direct X on your computer..?

if none of that works..I'm out of ideas..:(
I fear it's because it's a 64 bit..I did read somewhere..others have had problems as well...

Please let us know if they register properly though..If they don't..could be the way u are tying them..or wrong folder..

Hmmmm...I was able to register the files but i had to do it from the command prompt using the "run as an administrator" option. The panorama plugin was already in the system32 folder but the video loader file was not so i copied and pasted it there to get it to register. This did not solve the problem though...Should i look at any other files? I am not sure about direct x or where to look for it exactly. I am 100 percent sure that i am using the 32 bit OS though.

Thank you for the link. Upon further review, it turns out that I do have directx 11 installed and my computer seems reluctant to want to go back to directx 10 which is what it came with (I am guessing that the upgrade came as part of a windows update). It sounds like directx 11 is tailored for use with windows 7 so would I want to install and start using AM 4.6?

Ok so..
When u look inside your Project's Properties..and Frame's properties..all plugins are set..? --Probably is..just making sure

The last thing I can think of is...Media Player..
This may sound off the wall..but..

As far as i know..Vista doesn't use Media Player..or sometimes has to be set as the default player--

Any chance your media player isn't your default player..?...I don't know if that would have anything to do with it..But..it's something I thought of..I believe the plugin needs it..

I'm grasping at straws now..lol.

Also when u look in your AM's folder-the plugins folder, through windows explorer..You do see all pl1 files in there..? There should be 2 Active X controls, and 4part pl1 files..

As well as the config folder-[for 360 project] you should see the 1 reference to it there..

Trust me, I appreciate your grasping at straws since I wouldnt know what to grasp for otherwise. Windows media player is set as my default program and all of the project and frame settings are correct. In the plugins folder there are 3 .ocx files...one is clearly for the panorama, one for a video loader, and one for the third person plugin. I also see the four .pl1 panorama files. I an not sure about this but i vaguely remember something about having a video card versus a chipset. This computer uses a chipset so could this be the problem?

UPDATE: well, i guess that AM is more educational than i thought! Since I don't have a reliable internet connection at home for the moment, I actually went to the library! :eek: I downloaded the cubic panorama plugin and it works fine so at least now I know that my computer can handle this sort of thing. I am still kind of wishing the cylindrical pano would work but if it helps anyone else, there is a very good cubic panorama plugin for sketchup available which makes this so much easier. I think you can just google for CubicPano Out but i guess most of you pros probably know about that already.

Sorry for the late reply but thanks for all of the help. I will definitely forward this issue to GM as now I am also curious to see what the solution is.
