Font Problem

Postby GORDON » Sun Mar 14, 2010 4:28 pm

My game runs in "1024x768" frames. Some of my testers because of their font setup on their computer get the following message:
Warning! Your system is set to use large fonts. Your program will not work properly if you don't change the setting.........
Obviously they could just change their settings while they play the game but they don't know how or don't want to do that. Can I do anything from my end to solve this problem so they don't have this problem?

Hey there...

Unfortunately its a limitation..a known issue..for those who use AM..I gather its the same for those who wish to play a game made with AM..:(

- Systems with the fonts set to "Large Fonts" are not supported.

All limitations can be found here..

To change settings for fonts..can't they just go thru their Desktop Settings..by right-clicking desktop then hit..>> Properties..?

Font Problem

Postby GORDON » Mon Mar 15, 2010 2:55 pm

I was afraid of that! It seems like an easy fix to just have the user change the font size to normal but you would be surprised how many people are afraid to change their fonts temporarily because they think its too technical or they will not get their original settings back properly. Can "AM"
change a users font size and return them on quitting the game? Thanks!

If the players who get this message are using an Asian Windows Platform (Japanese, Chinese), changing the font size wouldn't solve this problem apparently:

The one problem with people simply changing their font size temporarily is that their screen icons have to be manually moved back to their original positions after playing the game.

hm...well they can right-click the desktop again..and choose Arrange/Sort icons by..Date/size/type--which is what i normally pick]...
and that will neatly sort out the icons on the desktop again...[Not sure if that's what ur talking about...]

The user will not get his desktop icons back the way he had them arranged originally but in the way windows sorts them if you use Arrange/Sort icons by..Date/size/type. Is this the case?

I gather it depends on how he arranged them before..--if he liked them a certain way....If he drags them to where he wants them..ect....then ya..he might have too do it manually~ Not sure how he did it before..

I myself pick window's sort...its just easier..and i like the neatness of it...I myself couldn't be bothered dragging them all over my desktop..but that's me.. :P

I would think it would be the same when u delete certain icons on the DT...and there are spaces everywhere...

It just comes down to the fact that everytime a user playing my game exits he has to move all his icons back to his favorite positions which for him is a real drag. Oh well! Thanks for the comments!

I wonder...
I tried changing my system to Large fonts..to see how it would react..And it didn't touch my desktop at all..It changed fonts elsewhere..In all windows..and elsewhere..--but didn't touch my desktop..not the names or icons..

I only changed my font size under the Appearance TAB..I didn't touch my DPI...I kept it at Normal as well..

I kept my resolution at 1024*768.. 32 bit..and simply changed my fonts..

I would think it should react the same way..When he changes his fonts back to large..All goes back to normal..

When i play a game..made in the resolution 1024*768...My desktop changes briefly..then i play the game.
When i exit out..my DT goes back to normal..
I would think that if he simply changes Fonts under Appearance TAB and has 1024*768 rez...It would react the same way it does for me..
Then when he exits out...change it to large again..

Not sure why its touching his desktop..:?

I think its his resolution that's doing that...and he may also have Icons set to large icons as well maybe.....?

Anyhow..just wanted to mention that..Not sure if that will help or not..

You're correct & I think the user is changing the DPI to "96" instead of the Appearance Tab to "normal". I also know he has his icons set to large.
Thanks again for your input.
