About saved games

Postby Vasilis » Mon Apr 19, 2010 10:37 pm

Hello to everyone and congratulations for this grate and very helpfull forum.I am from Greece and with a friend of mine are making an effort in a game.We are using adventuremaker to create an adventure game (about 800mb so far) and we have a small issue.I have searched almost all of the topics but didn't read something similar.I may have missed it as well. But the case is this: When i save a game and then want to load it there is no saved game to be found.Yes,there is one in the savedgames file but nothing when i try to load it.Any ideas?Thanx in advance.

Γεια σου Βασίλη
Well, I've never heared of that problem before.
Is your project using lots of variables? Does that problem occur with other projects too? Or just with this particular one? Did you try reinstalling AM?

Γεια σου πατριδα!
I think I wasn't very clear in my question. The problem is in the installed game's saves we have created, not in adventuremaker's. And no,there are only few variables used.Save works in another project. We have also tried the solution for a trouble with 360 panorama saves I read somewere in the forum, but it was not the case. We had almost completed our game and this ~Love to~ problem brougth us down. What could it be?

I can't be sure unless I get to examine it or you upload more data like screenshots etc, but I 'm guessing it could be a faulty installation of the game or a read-write access problem of the folder that stores the save files.
Try to run the game as an administrator.
Also try to find the save files inside the 'My Documents' folder.
What OS are you using? Is your AM software registered properly?
Try reinstalling the game.

We have tested the project in two different pcs(xp and vista), we have reinstalled, runned as adm but nothing changes.I run the game, I save it,I check in the Documents/Savegames/Missing(the projects title) and the saved game is there,i press the load button in the menu, a window appears saying "select the file you wish to load..." but there is no file there to select from.
You say something about "a read-write access problem of the folder that stores the save files."Maybe it is something with this. How could i check it?

"Missing" is the title of our project.

Oh, and i just created a simple project with 3 frames and the save/load function works just fine while the 'saves' are stored in the same folder(savegames) with the "Missing" project's saves.

To check the read/write access, go to the saved games folder, right click, hit properties.
But since you tested it in two different machines it should be a problem of the game itself.
What is the exact number of the used variables? Did you try re-creating the .Exe distribution file?

We've recreated the exe file several times having the same result. The variables are not more than 10 (I think they are seven in fact) in the whole game. You know,we could start from the beggining and create the project again. But what if we encounter the same issue. It would be unbearable.

I 'm trying to locate the problem and I 'm really brainstorming right now...

How many frames? How many items? There must be something that crushes the save system. Try opening the saved game file with notepad.exe and post the data here.

Welcome to the forums Vasilis :)

Would it be possible to make the game available to testers (Lyberodoggy and/or me) so that we can test it on our systems, and maybe figure out something?
If you don't wish to post a link to your file publicly, you could send the testers a PM with the download link, or if the file is not too big, send it as email attachment as .zip file? I think Hotmail supports up to 10 MB.

EDIT
Are you creating a game using the cubic or cylindric panorama plugin?
If so, did you follow the steps concerning save/load that refers to both (cylindric and cubic panorama plugin):

In order to be able to use the "Save Game" and "Load Game" features of Adventure Maker without any error messages, you must follow these simple steps:
1) Create a new 2D solid-color frame named for example "PleaseWaitWhileResuming".
2) In the "Frame Properties" of that frame, make it so that it goes to the "Last visited frame" after 2 seconds.
3) Click "Set resume locations", select all the frames, and assign the "PleaseWaitWhileResuming" frame to all the frames.

Hallo Mystery,it is nice to be here.

Well, we are using the cylindric plug-in,we've followed the steps you indicate but the only way i found to solve the problem is only if one creates a savegames file at the Documents and inside this a file with the name of the game, before installing the game.In about a week our project will be available to you and to Lyberodoggy to test and free for everyone to download. It will be about 500-700mb or maybe less.I will post some images at the unouncements page for a taste.

I see. This is very strange that it's not automatically working, I have never seen this problem, nor have I seen anyone report such a problem on the forums

Have you tried it on another computer?

Wow, 500-700 MB? That's quite big - but I'll try to make some space on my hard disk ;)

I have also tried it on another computer(XP), while I am using vista. Make the space. The game is on the way. Thanx for the instant reply
