how to make text appear as pointer moves over hotspot

Postby guston42 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 7:35 pm

I want to be able to make text appear, or a glow around an object appear etc. when I move the icon over a hotspot without clicking first as is common to many adventure games. I know how to make the icon change but its custom size is limited and the text appearing is at the bottom of the screen rather than near the hotspot. I am testing the freeware version at the moment. Is there any way around this, either scripted or none scripted or is it possible in the full version ? thanks

Welcome to the forums guston42 :)

To change the hotspot appearance when you hover over it (without clicking), you should use ShadowHunter's Keyguard Plugin. It also allows you to use custom cursor bitmaps of bigger size (as well as animated custom cursors):

To use the Keyguard Plugin, you need to use scripting.

Plugins can be used with the full version of Adventure Maker, but you can evaluate plugins (as well as other advanced features of the full version) with little projects (projects with less than 20 frames) from your free version.

Hi,

I known I'm saying this for over 6 months but Keyguard 5 is due for release within 2-3 months.

It comes with KeyGuard Studtio Professional and allows mouse over text WITHOUT the need for ANY scripting, all can be done in the GUI.

Of course yo DO need to Professional edition of AM to run it.

At this point KeyGuard Studio Professional is 99% finished some highlights:

- Finally support for polygonal hotspots
- Flip, rotate, duplicate, save to multiple frames, add remove vertici
- Multiple triggers, including single shot per polygon
- SmartLink (link polygon to hotspot to act the same)
- Auto hide for SmartLinked hotspots
- Convert hotspots to polygons
- Create polygonal grids
- Support for all mouse events
- Manager modules for cursors, text, status, SmartLinks
- Exports your frames with all information as JPEG or BMP to create a game script, a walkthrough or debugging
- Exports polygons, keystroke, captions to text files to help design
- Polygon finder for large projects
- Easy swapping of polygon ID's
- Create and share templates
- Supports all keystrokes (no longer only a predefined set) with SmartLink
- Detection for SAVE and LOAD menu so all status info will be saved
- Encrypted and compressed project files (no overhead to your project)
- Backwards compatible with older versions of KeyGuard
- Works with Windows 7
- Free automatic updates
- 100% FREE to use after registration

Well, the list is not complete but it'll give you a good preview of the next release of KeyGuard :D

With best regards,

That is fantastic Shadow Hunter~!..this will really be ideal for hidden object type games..jigsaw puzzles..all kinds of games..especially cause of the polygonal hotspots..
I don't understand some of the features..but i look really forward to reading and learning about them..
Will any of the features support magnifying lens[zoom] or likewise..Also transitions for hotspots..?..Just wondering..:)
I know i've asked for that a thousand times..:P

Hey there :)
Is KG 5 going to support detecting pressed and unpressed state or state change of every button? I 'm asking because I wanted to be able to use the arrows to control a hotspot on the screen, but that would require to know the change of the button's state to determine the start and end of the movement

Hi all,

Thanks for your nice comments :D

I'm trying my best to finish it ASAP.

KeyGuard Studio Professional is now fully compiled and the installer package is 100%

Next I need to work on the actual plugin (65% ready) and the help file (0% ready )

@Lyberodoggy: No, for this release only keypress down is supported
@Mercedes: I indeed created this for hidden object games, it will not have a magnifier function nor transitions for hotspots... though none of them are hard to implement in a next release

With best regards,

Yay :D
I really look forward to it - I always wanted to use Keyguard, but the current version proved to be too complicated and time consuming for me ;)

Let us know if you'd like to have a closed beta testing before the official release, I'd sign up :D

Looks like we'll have a party in Summer here :D
