Run-time error '339'?

Postby PenMasterRule » Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:42 pm

I'm not sure why, but when I downloaded this program and tried using it I get the run time error '339'. I did try and re-downloading and installing it, but it didn't work. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums PenMasterRule :)

Try first what the Help File says (http://adventuremaker.com/help/troubleshooting.htm):

If the error message says that a system file is missing or not properly installed:

Try re-installing Adventure Maker. If the problem is still there, try downloading the very latest version from www.adventuremaker.com and try installing it. You may also try to close all the other open applications before installing Adventure Maker.

If a file is still missing or not properly installed, try doing the following:
1. Search (on your hard disk or on the Internet) for the system file that is missing or not properly installed.
2. Copy it to your Windows/System32 folder (or Windows/System if you are using Windows9x).
3. Click "Run" from the Start Menu, and enter the following two words in the text field that appears:
regsvr32.exe FILENAME
where you must replace FILENAME with the name of the system file that is missing or not properly installed (include the full path). If everything is ok, you should get a message saying that the operation succeeded.

comdlg32 prob

Postby mortelini » Sat May 15, 2010 8:16 am

Hi Guys, I have exactly the same problem here with comdlg32.ocx
I have run regsvr and it says it has registered it ok. However, I still get the error when I launch.
I am running vista home edition.
One strange thing, which might be relevant, when I select Adventure Maker 4.5.2 Free edition in the start menu to run, it prompts me to allow this action (like when I installed it). Does it ask everytime it launches? or is it not installed?
I have tried rebooting, no effect.
So at the moment, I am outside the playground, looking at you all having a whale inside :-)

Any help gladly received.

Welcome to the forums Mort :)

Have you tried to do this:
1. de-install Adventure Maker
2. reboot your computer
3. re-install it again?

If you have a security application that might prevent registry changes, you might switch it off during installation of Adventure Maker (don't forget to switch it on again).

Yes, the User Account Control (UAC) of Vista will every time ask you if you allow to run Adventure Maker. It's a built in feature in Vista. It is possible to switch off UAC, but due to security reasons I wouldn't do that. This has nothing to do with the error message :)

Hi Mystery
Ok, I have just uninstalled, rebooted and re-installed.
The problem is the same.
I don't have any security running to prevent me installing this.

Okay Mort, are you logged in as administrator on that pc?

And you can locate comdlg32.ocx in the System32 folder?

Did you try to manually register it again, and get a "successful" message?

(Btw, I also have Vista Home Edition, so it should work - let's see how we can persuade your pc ;))

EDIT
One more thing, you might need to run the registration as Admin:
To open an elevated Command Prompt, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type:
regsvr32 %Systemroot%\System32\comdlg32.ocx

You should get the following message:
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\System32\comdlg32.ocx succeeded.

Hi Myst
Yes, did all that.
I have downloaded two different versions of the ocx. one 150k the other 194kb
Ran both as admin and all successful

Very strange
You don't happen to have a 64-bit Vista?

Just asking because on a 64-bit Vista, you'd need to have the ocx file in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, and register it from there.

Hmmm, and you also have comdlg32.dll in System 32 folder?
I don't know what other dependencies there are

Hi Myst
Yes, it is the 64bit version, which might be the issue
I tried my two flavours of the ocx in the SysWOW64 folder and registered them from there.
Same problem remains.
Perhaps there are no 64bit vista home users using this software?

Okay. One step further.

We have users with 64-bit Vista, who have no problems.

Okay, how about you unregister them all manually (in the System 32 folder and in the SysWOW64), and then try to register it again from the SysWOW64 folder?
And I'm not sure if you'd need to copy comdlg.dll also into your SysWOW64 folder :?:

This solution has worked for 64-bit Vista users:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/2586595-post8.html

Does it also happen if you right click Adventure Maker and run it as admin?

If it doesn't work for you, you might need to post your problem on a Tech Forums, as I have run out of ideas.
But maybe someone else who does use a 64-bit Vista, will pop in and has an idea. :)

Hi Myst
Thanks for your patience
To answer your questions.
Running AM as administrator produces the same error
I have the ocx in both system32 and syswow64
I also ran the full path name in the link you copied in, same error

ok, I figured out how to unregister the ocx with the regsvr32 /u >filename> command
I unregistered the same filename in the syswow64 directory, then went to the system32 directory and unregistered it.
Then I went back to the syswow64 directory and registered the one in there (the 194kb version)

I then ran the app (not as administrator) and

IT WORKED!!!!!!!

you little star

whew

Let playtime begin

Myst, I owe you one
