Beta testers needed for new Cubic Panorama creation features

Postby GM-Support » Tue Jan 04, 2011 5:41 pm

Hello,

I was wondering who might be interested in testing some future cubic panorama creation features (i.e. new tools to create exciting cubic panorama games).

The beta testing program will start sometime in 2011 (hopefully in the first months).

To participate, you simply need to reply to this thread.

The only requirement is that you must know how to create cubic panorama pictures to use in your games (sample picture available here). When replying to this thread, please tell if have already created at least one such picture (please feel free to attach it), and/or if you have created any cubic panorama games (screenshots are more than welcome). Alternatively, please tell if you think that you might be able to quickly learn how to create such pictures (for example, if you are familiar with a 3D modelling application, most such applications have plugins that allow creating cubic panorama pictures - examples here).

Best regards,

While I haven't used it yet, I would love to try it. Being new to it has some advantages...I might do something stupid and unexpected! :-)

Thanks GM for your continuing efforts for improving AM and getting it compatible with WIN7!!!

I also would love to test it. I'm using Maya for my 3D development.
I would have tested it earlier but I'm not sure what dimensions I need for the plugin. Do I really need cubic pictures or can I use also rectangular pictures like a room?

You have to create square images (with equal sides) that can be assigned to the 6 sides of a cube.

(Unfortunately I've not managed to render appropriate images from the software that I'm using that work seemlessly with the plug-in)

Wow! First, the new version of AM, now a new version of the cubic panorama plugin... I can't believe it. :o

Of course, I'm very interested in the development of this plugin, I think is one of the most powerful features of AM.
My usual tools are 3D Studio Max and Vue for 3D creation.
As you know, I have some experience with this plugin and the best example is: http://www.luminystudios.com/devil.html
It was my first game using this plugin, but quickly I saw its potential.
For me it is great news because I am developing a project and I will use this plugin.
I can not wait!! :D
Thanks GM.

Best regards, Vairon.

@ Vairon: It would be nice if you could make a short tutorial how to handle this plugin and how to make the pictures.

I have tried it with Maya but the results are not as I expected.

There's no need to hurry :)

At the moment I'm making some experiments to figure it out. The big problem is that I dont know where to place the cams in my 3D Szene to get the pictures I need, and the second problem is that I dont know where to place the pictures in the image combiner :(

Front, left, right is no problem, but the 3 other sides are always messed up. Also I'm unable at the moment to get a seemless Panorama.
Somethings wrong with the placement of my cams I think. But I'm going to make some test renders with different cam placements. I hope I make any progresses.

By the way: Which 3D Programm are you using? 3DMax?

I can have images Cubic Panoramic perfect size to 512x512 but only getting the final image with 1536x1024.
The image is not very clear but I'll use the Cubic Panoramic in my projects.
Adventure Maker If you want some Cubic Panoramic images and small animations .avi I can get here in the forum with all the taste.

Any new updates on this? I've been lazy about learning how to use Cubic Panoramic and I think it will be the next thing I'll take the time to learn in 2012. Anyway, I'm curious to learn what the next phase of this will be? video overlay on cubic panoramic? hotspots? If that were the case, WOW! It would really bring scenes to life!!!! Imagine Blackwish Cemetery with rolling fog for instance.

What about the new version of this wonderful plugin?
No news since the last post.

I'm very interested in this plugin and his evolution.

GM, please tell us something about the development of the plugin.

This is bad news, but I understand that there are other priorities more important as compatibility with windows 8.
