Typing puzzle

Postby mercedes » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:57 am

I posted this here..Should this have went into General Chat..? I wasn't sure where to post it..Sorry if its in the wrong forum..

Ok before I start my last puzzle/room for this game...[yayy]...
I thought I would get some advice..:) Not sure where to start..What to do first..

Ok...I want the person to find clues in the room--[words]-
They'll find them in books..
[Some words will be highlighted..in the book.]

They'll also find a piece of paper..with writing on it...
But the paper will have missing words--
[Books] will give them the words..to fill spaces up.

----------
Have you ever seen a game..where the user has to type in the words..into empty spaces on a piece of paper...
and the words appear..?

What would be best..Ok..easier...;

A--Draw the whole typewriter--and use mouse to click letters..
And use TEXT to make them appear..

Or..

B-Basically, pick from the words[list]..and input them into their perspective spaces..

So click the word in list...and then click paper...in the right place.--

*******
The thing is..;

I know I want to have the user put words into the right space..
But also do something if they put it in the wrong space on paper..

What do u think..Any ideas..? I"m drawing a blank as to where to start...Or how to make it so the user knows its in the right/wrong place..

Not sure if i should use a plugin too..

I guess you could have the book displayed along with the note and they would click the letter in the book and then the space in the note to fill it. If it didnt fit, then just add a sound, like a very quiet voice saying, "nooo". Or better yet, add a small video that shows the letter there briefly before gradually disappearing.

You could also change the cursor to the chosen letter when they click on it from the book and change the cursor back to normal when they click on the note.

There are a lot of different ways, I guess you'll just have to choose one!

In one room there is a number of books of various colors (blue, red, yellow, green) and who speak several stories.
But within each of these books there is an underlined word.

Beside there is an object with the colors (yellow, red, blue, green)

But there is a special book (shines) that has many words and these words are all links to the next frame.

So for the book (shines) have magic, I will not have to click right words.
These are the words that were underlined in the books of color.

And the correct order is:
1-underlined word in the book (yellow)
2-underlined word in the book (red)
3-underlined word in the book (blue)
4-underlined word in the book (green)

And an idea.
Do not know if it serves?

OK..this part I think I get... The words i want are underlined..Are they in color..?

Beside there is an object with the colors (yellow, red, blue, green)

Ok..this gives them the correct order..?

I think I get this part..The shiny book..It has alot of words..?

They would click the correct words..in the shiny book..in the right order..of color..according to the object..?

And the correct words..according to the books..?

Am i confused again...? I've read it a few times..If i read something too many times..I end up confusing myself..more than ever..Hard to admit, but true..

I guess you could have the book displayed along with the note and they would click the letter in the book and then the space in the note to fill it.

I like that idea too..Instead of video..I could just use a timed event..I like the disappearing idea alot..hm..

Thanks Guys..Great ideas! You really give me something to work with..:D

Did you solve your typewriter dilemma? I don't know if this helps but I created a jumbled word puzzle which is similar to what you're describing. I used variables for each letter. When the player clicks on the right letter it shows up in another area of the frame. It was time consuming but the grand kids liked it.
The words "Old" and "Grama" don't necessarily go together

Yes I did..I used this puzzle in my latest game..[that I will, *hopefully* soon compile..:)]

Do u mean a word search puzzle..? So they would click each letter to make up a word..But as soon as the one letter is wrong...something happens..They have to start over again maybe..?

Yes, its a take on word search. After seeing Pingo's example I realized that what I was suggesting was way off base
