What type of image files[solved]

Postby kori » Sat Oct 22, 2005 3:49 am

What type image files do I need to use with AM? JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, what? If AM can use any type image file, what would be best to use? I am referring to the background image, not the animations.

I have some images to use with AM, but at the present they are in the TIFF format.

Thanks

Hi Kori,

The best format to use is jpg - it produces the smallest size file and if you use only minimum compression (I use a 10% compression) the images look as good as bmps at a fraction of the size.

Animations you can use GIF or for videos I think most people here use an AVI with compression done with their favourite codec (a number of the users here use the XVID codec - again, it gives good playback with little or no compression artifacts and is very small compared to some of the other codecs out there)

Thanks for the information on file types. I was not sure what type of file to save my images in for use in AM.

Hi Kori,

Go with a small compression JPG for your images. It will keep your program small and that will be a plus as you game/project developes and you add more images.

Tiff are nice but they are BIG!! GM has a utility that will do batch conversions of image files if you are having problems locating a file type converter.

I had planned on using Photoshop to convert my image files. I seem to remember it has some auto feature for running batch files.

Just out of interest, what is GM?

Thanks

Png is also small and is not lossless.

For some reason it isn't implemented in AM.
